LARSON/GLASTRON Hull Problems- YES Again

Note previous thread listed below.

Well I was finally able to put some time on the boat to properly test it. Just after one hour of operation the transom started hairline cracks in the exact same place as before. This happen in inland waterways without any type of chop.

So what does this say about Larson quality control??

You would think the factory would be able to get it strait.

Time for a new hull. :(
I would get in touch with them ASAP and let them know that the repair isn't working and you want the hull replaced and not repaired!! Maybe you can get them to pony up a bigger one for your troubles. :D :D

Re: LARSON Hull Problems- YES Again

I am the point wether or not to keep the boat even once it is replaced/ repaired. When a manufacture decides to pull a boat in to be repaired it should be the end of the issue. I am very disappointed that the manufacture could not get this right. I am worried about the quality of the rest of the boat.

If they give you a new hull maybe you should would reconsider. Not telling you what to do, but if I recall right, Larson took the problem and ran with it one they had knowledge of it. That speaks volume of the company. They try to fix it and it did not work. Too bad, but if they get back at you with a new hull I still see them as a respectable brand. I would expect a little more for you lost time.

Well I'm waiting on the manufacture to repond-

I have contacted legal counsel on this one. I feel that Larson sold me a defective product tried to repair it (twice) and it didn't work. Third strike your out.

Even if they replace the hull I decided I am not keeping the boat. I have lost all faith in the quality of construction after the second repair.

My last boat was a Wellcraft 32 coastal. Very well made. I literally put that boat though hell running through 6 foot chop most of the time. I never had one issue with that boat.

Update-

My dealer finished evaluating the damage and taking more photo's to send to Larson. I will be asking Larson to replace the hull or refund my money. I guess they don't make them like the use to.

I am curious to see if anybody think's the motor was damaged by being mounted to a transom that flex's. When in any type of chop there was alot of movement. I'm sure there was additional stress on the hydralic lift and mounts- ANY Thoughts???

I seriously doubt that a flexing transom will damage the outboard. I say that because the outboard is one piece that mounts onto the transom. The outboard motor is self contained and does not rely on the strength of the transom to do any support function other to keep it from falling off the boat. If you look at the power trim and tilt you will see all parts are mounted to solid engine mounting plate, and not the transom.

UPDATE

Larson is refusing to replace the hull. This is after they have admitted a manufacturing problem. They want to patch it instead.

I am having a specialist look at it

Time to stand in front of your dealer with your spare time and hold a sign. Picket and tell anyone that is going in there your story. The dealer will put pressure on Larson so fast its not even funny!!!

I must say that I am expremely disappointed in Larson and Glaston. I am currently saving the money to purchase a new boat from them and now that im almost there i am having second guesses. Well I hope you the best!

I had to have the transom re-built on my Larson. The dealer who did work said it failed pre-maturly because the cut out for the gimbal assembly was way to big. Said the transom seal did not seal up everything and allowed water to leak in and rot.

The sad thing about this whole situation is that Larson knows they have a design issue and is refusing to fix the problem . When my boat went to the factory they knew this was not going to fix it. But they acted like it never happened before.

What kind of boat manufacturer does this?

I have an investigator locating other Larson owners to advise them of the issues

Quality control is not what it used to be - By the way the boat is an 06 that was purchased in 07. It has little hours on it
