Added a central vac system on my 250DA - Wife loves it, Works great. This thing would suck a golfball through a garden hose. I would reccommend this for anyone wanting a vac - Made in USA and easy to install and a nice compact size. I got a great deal on this one with all the attachments including a powered head for it. Here is a link to the company if anyone is interested. http://www.roadvac.com/

Well, it's certainly a neat installation but I'm having trouble getting my head around the concept of having a central vac in a small cruiser. Of course, I know the importance of keeping the admiral happy so it's probably worth it ;) Enjoy.

It saves me hauling the shop vac in there, I like to keep my boats CLEAN - I hate dirt in my boat.

Remember, If she is happy everybody is happy. :)

I like the idea but I've also wondered if my Roomba would work :D

Anyway, how did you determine it would fit? I'm new to EC so I'm surprised that there's that much unused space.

the unit is only about 4" deep so there was plenty of room behind that panel in the storage area. I had to run 110V over to that side but the wife wanted a plug in the head anyway so it worked out good.

I have central vac in my house......... but I doubt the old farm house will float!!!

Nice job. I really can't believe you said the "wife loves it" because I take the wife out in the boat to get away from those jobs!

I'm also having trouble getting my head around it. It's kinda neat, but we have a dustbuster that takes care of everything. I'd also be reluctant to give up any storage space to that thing. There's little enough of that on my boat. Finally, you want to make sure that wherever you mount the 'sucker', it's in a fully enclosed area that isn't open to the bilge... it doesn't appear to be designed for marine use, as in 'spark protected'

I think for most people running small cruisers this would be a case of a solution searching for a problem. Nice install, tho.

Wow, only 4" deep? That's thin.

I'd actually been thinking about cleaning (if/when I find a boat) and really don't want to drag a shop vac down there. Looks like it did a nice job.

Not raggin' on you, guy- it's your boat, you do what you want with it. I see limited utility outweighed by the drawbacks (space and potential safety issues), is all. Just a different opinion.

I don't think I'd be as worried about it being spark-protected in the bow of the boat. There are plenty of boats with helms that have open fuses and such under the helm that aren't "spark protected". If this were in the engine bay, I'd be concerned.

Personally, I think it a fantastic idea, especially in a boat with a cabin. I would love one, but I would need a longer hose (which I'm sure is easy...standard sizing). How much for the unit?

The hose stretches to 40' - Take a look at the website for info & prices. I bought mine at a garage sale believe it or not an I don't think they ever installed it.

For my first post i"m bringing this one back from the deep. The vac is a top drawer idea....all the sand and crap that gets on our boat after a day with the grandkids....are you kidding me!! Thanks a bunch for the great pictures & the www. Your boat looks as clean as a whistle and I keep ours the same way. I hate a dirty boat. Thanks again.

Like I said, the wife loves this thing and I like a clean boat - I have 2 kids so it gets messy.

Is it rustproof? If not, it will not have much of a life as boats are real damp. Is it a brushless motor, or does it have all kinds of nasty sparks jumping from the brushes, like a conventional vacuum cleaner? I would be pretty concerned, especially if you tried to vacuum some dirt out of the bilge.....

if you look at their website, the model is also called the seavac. They have lots of info and reference installations for marine use. Also, it appears the vacuum portion is entirely sealed. No sparks or humidity concerns if that is true.

Man, You guys are tough - You realize this is not in the engine compartment, correct? It looks pretty sealed up from looking at it and they do say you can use them on a boat.
Anyone have a smoke while in the cabin? I would think that would be more dangerous than this thing and I am sure there are lots of smokers that are not blowing up their boats while smoking down below. (I am not one of them BTW)
