Needed a Notary and was at the bank anyway. Nice lady said sure if its bank business. Well, it wasn't bank connected, so no go. Went by the attorney's office, prepared to pay, and lo and behold, got the document notarized for free.

My bank always has a Notary available at no charge to bank customers. Doesn't matter what the "business" is. Get another bank.:D

No joke! Sounds like the nice lady wasn't THAT nice!
My bank does so, too.

I was at a Bank of America. Do tell the banks with service.

I can't spell the name of the bank because of an error on my computer. You'll have to read that looking downwards.

First if that was your bank I would consider changing banks tomorrow. You are a customer and that IMO is customer service.

I am a notary in VT and I will not select and choose ....... if asked and it is legal I will do it.

Well, definitely NOT Bank of America. they are generally in the top 2 or 3 of the Customer Service Hall of Shame.

My favorite rant about banks, is the fees that they charge for cashing checks drawn on one of their own customers, when the recipient is not a customer.

I just find it to me beyond disgusting for a bank to insist on being paid a three dollar fee, to cash a check written to me by one of its own customers. This is especially so, considering that they don't so this if the check is simply deposited in my bank and processed in the usual fashion. If my bank did that to someone to whom I had written a check, I would pull my accounts in a heartbeat!

My bank does it for free, so does BOA and Wachovia in Charlotte. I have done plenty of bill of sales...

2 weeks ago, I walked into Bank Am, took my ball and went home; the abuse of customers.
( they need more $, due to bad investments on their part- think they cant get it from depositors).

That's why my banking is done in small, rural banks, where Joe still runs his own bank and makes the decisions. He understands that the customer is his lifeline, and treats him with respect and appreciation. The customer is a name, not a number.

BTW, my banks will notarize anything for me for free as a service to me, as will my lawyer's office. I get free advise from my lawyer and CPA ... but then I hunt and fish with them also. Small town America is a great place to live.

I have found that lawyers often complicate things so THEY can charge by the hour to make them uncomplicated..and they always...did I say ALWAYS? make sure they get their money first........always

Our primary banking is at a credit union where I've banked since the early 1960's, even though I haven't lived in its area since 1967.

But we always maintain a local account, too -- at a small local bank where they know me and call me by name (my given name, not call me names:D)
In addition to notary services, I sometimes need a signature guarantee when I sold some mutual funds. I changed banks because my old one didn't offer that.

We've usually tried to avoid Mr. Big Bank. Problem is, with all the mergers, it seems like most banking will soon be controlled by only 3 or 4 big nationwide banks anyway.
