My 1st fiberglass project is just about done...
My leaning post consisted of a fiberglass top mounted on 2 aluminum pedastals.
Running in rough seas if would flex quite a bit and the gelcoat at the deck is showing a couple stress cracks.
I prepped the top, (grinding, etc), and built a mold around it to extend it all the way to the deck.
I used modeling clay to form a radius in each corner and waxed the mold with 3 coats of mold release wax.
Lamination consisted of...
2 coats of gelcoat sprayed inside the mold
1 layer of 3/4 csm
1 layer of 1708
1 layer 3/4 csm
1/2" plywood coring
1 layer 3/4 csm
1 layer 1708
1 layer 3/4 csm
additional 1708 strips in corners and mounting points covered with strips of 3/4 csm
2 layers of 3/4 csm
1 coat of gelcoat, (waxed), brushed on
I should be able to get it mounted in the boat today and install the accessories on it and will post some pics, (if I can finish before sun down).
