There is an artical in this mornings paper, about the number of hispanics moving into the area, and the fact that the (smal) city's hospital that used to get by with volunteers, and bi-linguel employees has now hired two full time interpreters. This small city has 1822 hispanics living here it states, that is one full time interpreter for every 911 hispanics, which at least half of them must speak some english (I wonder why it now cost $2000.00 PER DAY TO RENT A HOSPITAL ROOM).
The artical pictures one of the interpreters with a 57 year old gentleman from columbia, that his company recently transferred here from florida, and states that he has been in the U.S. for over 25 years, and does not speak a single word of english (the article was not a negative one, but a positive one).
I should think that having lived here for over 25 years the gentleman should have learned to speak english
(is the officil language of florida still english
).
