Re: Lets talk phones

Iphone hands down!

mine costs me $77 a month, and its terrific. I use the gps on the boat, in the car, my wife connects her laptop with it when we are out using the mobile wifi feature, the kids play games on it in the car, pictures, facebook, video, it has a flashlight when its dark.... you get the idea. my wife has a crackberry and its good but not THAT good.

I put mine in an otterbox case and its been dropped many times, case protects it extremely well.

Re: Lets talk phones

As of late december of 2011 iphone did not make a 4g device, that may have changed but i doubt it.
Still no 4G but that may change this year. Next iPad that is coming out is reported to support both GSM(ATT) and CDMA(Verizon) and have LTE(4G).

To those who might know.... what is the deal with Iphones not being a "secure" device like a black berry.
My wife works in telcom at a large nationwide company that has thousands of BB and they won't allow Apple items, Phones or ipads, on their "secure network servers".
Blackberry email goes through a Blackberry specific mailserver. That is also why the all Blackberry email goes down when the Blackberry server goes down. Also, companies can download their own security policies into a Blackberry while applications are just coming out to do the same with the iPhone.

My prediction is that Blackberry is doomed once security centric companies start allowing iphones.

Yea, i think you are right. They (Blackberry) are in trouble...

Definitely, at my work place there has been a massive shift away from Blackberry to the iPhone. Blackberries are too complicated and difficult for people to use, unless you have a particular aptitude for intricate tech toys. (most people do not)

RIM (Blackberry) is probably going to see its revenue top out and then it will have to re-invent itself and come out with a more simple gadget (IMHO)

Droid Bionic here with the extra capacity battery and a hard case belt clip holder that really streamlined...As far as I know iphones don't multitask at all...I can stream Iheartradio or tunein radio and surf the net at the same time...The camera is awesome, and angry birds(that everyone has) is addictive...I use a program call golflogix for a on course GPS and with the extra battery I spent 20 for the app and 35 for the battery...Skycaddies were 400$...There is even a emulator for older Nintendo games...I played through the legend of zelda last weekend and it brought back memories...

While the email isn't as nice a blackberries data push, the phone as a whole does everything and the 4gLTE goes like 20 meg a second download...Its faster then my home connection...

I used smtp.verizon.com to send email from 7 different accounts on my storm...I know there is an @blackberry.com address you can set up but I never did so I don't know...I do know you don;t have to use blackberries mail server it supports pop3 and imap...

Blackberry email server has nothing to do with a blackberry email address domain.

A company will have their employees use a balckberry because of the security of using the Blackberry's email system. Has nothing to do with being able to use smtp.

Your Droid Bionic and the iPhone 4s both have dual core 1GHz processors so the speed of running apps are going to be almost identical. Problem with most of the Droid's are there pretty horendous battery life, especially if you are running an LTE phone since those chips are so power hungry.

My iphone is jailbreaked so I have a nice little app that kills all background processes at the touch of a button. Saves my battery life.

My droid bionic with the 45% longer life battery lasts with 4g on and a GPS app called golflogix for a 5ish hour round of golf and lasts the rest of the day after that...For me to get from the charger in the morning, through a round of golf checking espn and azcardinals.com for info most of the day on sundays and then all the way home without going below 50% I consider good battery life....

Re: Lets talk phones

Battery life is an issue with the stock bionic...I use this and my hard case is one of these...I admit I don't keep the GPS tracker on all the time...I toggle it off when I don't use it with a widget that comes on the homescreen...I added launcherpro and a few other apps like beautiful widgets and a 4g/3g toggle button and my phone will last 3 days on one charge(unless there is a round of golf in there somewhere)...

I don't mind the extra 1/4" of thickness from the other battery and cover, and the hard case is practically bulletproof...The phone stays in my work pants clipped to the inside of my cargo pocket by my thigh...I love the case cause I never have to worry about a broken screen....

Re: Lets talk phones

They have similar available for the iPhone and I actually bought one and sent it back because it made the phone too heavy. I used to use my iPhone for golf as well but switched to a dedicated golf gps. Curious about using your phone for golf. The one thing I did not like about my iPhone for golf was the problem with the GPS having to reacquire all the time and getting false measurements. You have a similar problem?

I don't play golf, too many hobbies already Lol, but am curious none the less. Does this golf gps give you an actual distance to the hole from where you are standing or something...?

It gives you a distance to the front, center, and back of the green...Usually they have a red, white, and blue flags for front, middle, and back...It doesnt have to reaquire anything you just open up the phone and the app pops up and it shows you where you are...You can select where you are and move and select another point when you get to your ball and it will tell you how far you went(accurate to 1' as far as I know)...
