Re: liberator 211 rework

I'd think through this stringer replacement pretty thoroughly. I'm sure you're more than ready for this project to be over, but there's no sense in shorting it now. The stringer, as you know, is structurally speaking, quite possibly the most important thing in the boat. I'ts probably time to test all the stringers and if there's any moisture in them, pull 'em and replace 'em. I know this is a HUGE job, but it would sure be a waste of effort if you end up with a useless boat because of the sub-structure. Especially after you've done all this work to the engine.

Why not put some pics up and these guys will all the experience can weigh in on what's best to do. Good luck.

Re: liberator 211 rework

I did not explain enough in my last post. I have already replaced one stringer as both are rotten. The first stringer I cut out ground down the hull and glassed a new on in. I also replaced the motor mount for that stringer. The four winns guy I have been talking to for advice built the libs in the 80's. He said on the second stringer since the glass on both sides is good I could cut the inner side out tear out the stringer and epoxy a new on to the existing glass. then use polyester resin and re-glass the other side. He said if the mount was ok then I could keep it. The glass on this mount is good but the wood was wet and had a little rot, but is now dry. Also, the wood in the mounts does not touch the hull. Everything wood in the structure was floating. I have seen were people will use epoxy to saturate the wood then thickened epoxy to fill the hole and re-drill the mounting holes. The first pic is when I started glassing in the motor mount. The second is of the existing mount. FW said I could epoxy the stringe to the back side and then glass the outside of the stringer.
