Re: liberator 211 rework

i did a pretty thurough inspection and the only real rot on the stringers is by the port front of the motor mound which will require a little buit of grinding and patching. other than that it seemed to be pretty solid. the person i bought boat from did not seem to know much about the boat. he thought i just needed to patch one small spot on deck which wasnt the case but once i opened up the floor i got thru the deck layer and everything below that was suprisingly good.

Re: liberator 211 rework

Great sounding boat. Looks like you and I are in the same situation. I am replacing the deck under the bench seat, and the decking in the engine compartment. I have all the deck carpet removed and the parts of the old deck removed, I am contemplating how to re-carpet some of the non deck parts, vertical surfaces around the doors to the cuddy under the steering wheel etc....

i plan on using carpeting to give it that finished look, but im sure either way you do it it will look good

That sounds great. I am glad that I was wrong. Mine had a lot of rot but it may have been because the bellows let in water and the back sank (guessing). I have been thinking about the carpet also. I have seen the ruberized deck coatings on the market and like them. But I am not sure if it gives a good finished look. Does anyone have a picture of the front lip of the deck where it steps down to the cuddy. I must not have gotten a good picture and I can't tell if there is a lip of plywood that goes past the bulk head. There is a second piece of wood that screws in behind the bulk head. It looks like there is about 6 inches of plywood past the section for the gas tank.

Hey Num! You did a really nice job. Wish mine looked that nice!
Hows the noise level without having the carpet in the engine compartment?

Re: liberator 211 rework

Hello,
I am new to the liberator ownership lifestyle. I was able to pick up an 89 241 last week. The original asking price was $3500, and what the guy told me is that the only thing it needed was the rear bench to be re-built and it was ready for the water. Well, he moved on to a 35' fountain, and i am not sure if he didnt know, or just lied to me...but there is a little more work involved than that. Anyway, I basically told him i would drive home with my money in my pocket, or take the boat with me for $600, he went with the 2nd option. So...I too have started a liberator project. Need to build/buy rear bench, sun deck, floors are a bit soft, had water running from engine bilge to cuddy(i think that is under control) motor had no starter, install a cd player, and do some re-wiring to the entire boat. I will let you know how it turns out, and post some before and afters. exterior should be fine with a bath and a buff

Re: liberator 211 rework

Numpux, great news on the re-start!!! Nothing sounds sweeter than your own engine, on your own boat, eh? I really like that exhaust you're using. It just looks mean! As to the noise, you could always use some of that self-adhesive sound deadening material they use under car hoods, etc. to quiet it if it's too loud. Just stick it under the motor cover/seat. When's the launch date?

Re: liberator 211 rework

Does anyone know of a replacement i could use for the crankshaft pulley on an OMC King Cobra 460? OMC part # 912402....it is obsolete, and I was curious if there is any kind of automotive application that would work?

Thanks,
Jeff

Re: liberator 211 rework

Another huge help would be if someone could get a quick measurement on that pulley. I know that it is 7" in diameter, but i dont know the width. I think it was 2 groove as well. King Cobra 460 crankshaft pulley

Re: liberator 211 rework

I am way behind as well. Still need to finish one engine mount and decide what to do with the other. The glass is good but the stringer was rotted. I can replace the stringer from the back. The the one side to existing with epoxy and glass in the back. This would save huge time. The only problem is that the mount has rot in the wood as well, but I think it is dry. I could either drill the holes wider and pour thinned epoxy, let soak then fill the hole with thickened epoxy and drill new hole. Maybe even glass over the top after filling holes. or I could cut just the top off excavate the wood and replace then glass with epoxy over the top and down the sides with 3 layers of mat/woven. Any help would be greatly appreciated. This would reduce my time and money considerably. I would not have to cut out all of the glass, grind and reglass everything like I did the other side.
