My lift assist cylinder has quit assisting on my 1993 Rude 40hp TE40ELETB. I have read all the posts concerning problems with these troublesome things. My cylinder will hold the motor in any position that I put it. However it is difficult to lift. I tried to adjust the shell coupler at the control lever ball joint and managed only to break it while being very careful taking it off the ball joint. However, when prying the shaft up with a screw driver at the cylinder as much as 1/4" or more, I get no lift assist. I am now assuming that I need a cylinder. I know that I could install a tilt\trim mechanism but before I do that, I would be willing to spend 200.00 on a replacement. Anyone have any Idea other than Ebay (where I have a bid on a used one) where I might find one in this price range?
Thanks for the help,
Tim
