I need to replace a damaged roller from trailer. DSC00107.jpg

The way i thought of doing this was placing brick block and floor jack below with cut of wood front area of boat raise jack jack DSC00109.jpg

As floor jack arm raises the front of boat raises as well.. Back tie downs n transom saver are not attached   DSC00110.jpg

Not sure why it lifts sure its simple but i'm complete amateur .... Any clues

Re: Lift boat from trailer

you need to attach the trailer to a tow vehicle OR put blocks or jack stands under the back of the trailer... you aren't lifting the trailer, you are tilting it because by jacking up the front you create a condition where the trailer has more weight on the rear

that should work, i put blocks at rear corners of the boat, with the hitch down, then used the trailer jack to raise the front, then i put blocks under the front and lowered the hitch. my boat was 3" over the rollers, using only the trailer jack

Is the winch strap loose? I would try hooked up to the tow vehicle as the weight on the rear of the trailer might be raising the tongue. But check that strap!

One of the more 'popular' ways to lift the boat from the trailer is to lower the tongue as far as you can and then block up the stern at the transom corners. Then when you lift the front of the boat with a jack, you are actually lifting something rather than tilting the boat backwards.

You can Google some pictures and videos of folks who have lifted their boat and even removed it from the trailer.

I certainly can't tell for sure but are you only changing the roller and nothing else. I ask because from your first picture, it looks like there is some serious haul damage in that area as well... Just thinking out loud!

One of those folks would be me. Just did it about 4 weeks ago. In your case if you are just wanting to replace the roller then attach the trailer to a heavey vehicle and then use your floor jack.

gm .... Yeah it's a boat I'm working to restore but I'm starting with the trailer before breaking into other areas of boat so yeah I hitched to truck sadly results r same note its a trailer that breaks in two parts not very certain what that is referred to ... so boat lifts from winch area a good 2-3 inch.

Re: Lift boat from trailer

A trailer that "splits" in two is a tilt bed trailer. So my first very stupid question for you is...is the pin in the tilt bed so it can't tilt? To me, and its difficult to tell, it looks like your tilt pin is sitting on top of the trailer tongue between the forward roller and your winch post. Is that correct? If so, insert it please :joyous: and try again.

Also, if you're still having issues getting the boat off the trailer, here's what I would do if you're just replacing that forward roller....

1. Use the setup in Photo #3.
2. loosen the bolts on the brackets holding the roller to the boat trailer frame.
3. Disassemble and reassemble with new roller.

Re: Lift boat from trailer

Time to rethink things a bit......

something else just occurred to me... that roller is so new that it still has the sticker on it but is already split.... it may be seriously overloaded due to incorrect bunk and roller adjustment on the rest of the trailer... lower the tongue jack all the way and block the stern of the boat and then raise the tongue jack all the way and block the keel at the front and lower... this should have the whole boat hovering just above the trailer.... more jacking may be needed if not... THEN adjust the whole trailer so that the bunks and rollers are all the same distance from the boat and replace any broken ones at the same time.

ahh gotcha... read my post again... I'm not at all suggesting abandoning anything... just suggesting that you need to adjust the whole trailer so that the new roller doesn't split before it's sticker can get worn off also

Re: Lift boat from trailer

I've looked at all you pictures. It looks like you have a tilt trailer and I suspect when jacking the weight on the back of the trailer is causing it to tilt. That should not be happening unless the tilt lock pin is defective.

As a temp solution you might be able to clamp the 2 sections together with a u-bolt or big c-clamp. I strongly suggest that fix the lock pin before you tow or launch the boat again.

Looking at picture 3 of post 12. Does the brake actuator have 2 bolts through the trailer frame or just 1?
