When it’s time for car’s headlights/tail lights to come on, trailer’s lights are flashing. During the day, it’s all good. I have a flat 4 pin set up and upon testing using 4-way light tester (left, middle, right diode), i get:

press brake: middle & right diodes light up
left turn signal: middle diode lights up
right turn signal: right diode lights up
headlights on: left diode is flashing

Any ideas ?

Wrong harness kit ?

What is the tow vehicle? Is the tow vehicle wired at the factory or is it a plug and play or wired by an individual?

Have you hooked it up to a different vehicle to see if it reacts the same.

Your test indicates something isnt kosher with the headlights

Test with another vehicle. There should be NO FLASH with the headlights. You may have a wrong plug & play kit.

Test with another vehicle but I believe the plug & play kit is the wrong kit. There should be NO FLASH with headlights. Brown wire of your flat 4 is tail lights and can be tapped into at the tail light or license plate light. I like the plug & Play but it has to be for your vehicle. The converter could be bad or wired in wrong if it isnt part of the plug & play.

Harritwo that’s what i thought too. Likely it’s the harness kit. I looked up #46155 by Hopkins and i hope it will take care of it 🤞🏼

Also i will do it myself this time

Are the brake lights on your car separate from the turn signals? Because that is what that Hopkins unit is for.

Wiring them can sometimes be trickey--I used one on a Hyundai Santa Fe and I remember doing a lot of modification to the original trailer connector

First off, make sure your ground is good on both the car and trailer.

Second, the flashing you describe is kind of an unusual symptom. Does your trailer have several incandescent running lights? I'm thinking that the current draw is more than the converter can handle and there is some kind of circut breaker that keeps blowing and resetting itself. This can easily be corrected by changing the main bulbs on the rear of the trailer to LED, thus lessening the current load.

Good luck!.
