I recently installed what is a called a Heavy Duty Water Pump Kit, F5H074 on my 1974 Chrysler 135hp outboard. The standard kit is a FK1033-1. The Heavy Duty housing is 2 parts instead of one and made out of some kind of alloy that looks like a combination of copper and stainless steel. The impeller is 3/4" tall with 5 splines. The water outlet seal is white plastic instead of rubber. All of these improvements could be seen by a very strong stream (even on muffs) at the tell tail. So far I cam very happy. Water temps on any area of the head was 136-140 degrees. After 6 days straight of running the engine in salt water the over temp alarm never came on even with a lot of trolling. It was worth the $100.

Thanks for the post
I'm in fresh so guessing I don't need, but heavier duty sounds good. My comment is; you said the impeller is five blade (not 6 like regular). Guessing when the impeller needs replacing, can it be found easy enough

Sorry about that it is 6 blades. The one that was in it before had 12 vanes like the picture below. The 6 blade might help do a better job of moving debris and water than the 12 blade. I sometime go thru shallow fresh water with plants growing in it. I 'm thinking it might help get thru the plants better. This might be a benefit of the 6 vane.

Ya got me scratching my head some. The one that came out of my 125 and 140 was 6 blades, and the ones I'm finding to replace are also 6 blades

What does “heavy duty” buy you?
Is this a Chrysler specific issue?

I run outboards in saltwater 300-400 hours a season. Easily 200 hours of that trolling. Never had cooling issues.

If anything, I run too cold while trolling.

I think it is a Chrysler outboard issue. The first post explains the difference.
