Live wells

Hello, I just purchased a Grumman boat (used) and its the first boat I have owed with a live well. I tried putting water into the well at home with a garden hose but the water just kept running out at the back of the boat. There was a tube in the well that I've read about on here and its to use as a water leveler. Is it normal that the water I put in the well drains automatically, or should there be some kind of plug that i'm missing? Thanks in advance for your remarks.

Welcome to iboats!

Yes, you need to plug the drain in the bottom of the livewell. If the pump fills the livewell, there should also be an overflow drain.

Mine has a tube (PVC pipe) that plugs into the bottom drain. The livewell fills ups and drains out the top of the tube. When I'm ready to empty I just pull out the tube and the water drains to the bottom.

There are a hundred different livewell designs but most all of them have a drain plug at the bottom and an overflow at tthe top so just get a plug and get it in the bottom hole and you will be good.

Thanks for the information, I do have a tube but is does not seem to fit quite right in the hole at the bottom of the well. Maybe its just worn out, I will ask our local dealer. Thanks to all for your replies.
