I just want a simple livewell. I rarely keep fish that I catch but like to sometimes. Can I mount this pump in the bottom of my livewell and use one outlet for new water and the other to pump water out? I just want a simple, inexpensive setup that will work good enough for minimal use. Thanks

Re: Livewell

You can make a livewell any way you like. Water gets pumped in and gravity can let it run out -- provided the outlet/overflow on the tank is higher than the water line. You only need one pump. The inlet to the pump must be below the water line as livewell pumps cannot "suck" up hill. All of this means the drain and pump inlets need through hull fittings at the stern, and below the water line. The overflow also needs a through-hull fitting but above the water line, or else you use a stand pipe in the drain. If you don't know what a stand pipe is, remove the lid from the toilet tank in your house. The big pipe in the middle of the tank is a standpipe. If water gets too high it runs into this pipe.

I've seen people make livewells out of insulated coolers by doing what you're talking about.
