I"M RE-ASSEMBLING MY 1990 Evinrude 30 hp stator plate and the power pack + coils onto the plate and was wondering what strength of LOCK -TIGHT glue to put on the screws. There are 5 small screws for the stator plate to be secured on the engine and 5 screws to hold down the coils and power pack.

thanks

Blue is good, red is better. However I shy away from loctite where a good ground connection through the screw is vital.

"Blue is good, Red is better." However, be careful the red can be too good, requiring 300 degree heat to remove the fasteners in the future. You can't be heating those items.

I was contemplating using blue for the coil and power pack screws and red for the stator plate screws, since initially the coil and power pack screws had red locktite and the plate screws had nothing. I'll just go blue on all 10 screws both for the stator plate and components. Your right about the red locklite ; even though its semi-permanent its really hard to take a screw out with it hardened on it

Wonder what the service manual for my 1990 evinrude model E30EESS 30 hp would say . I'd have to buy a copy to find out

thanks

You really never want to use red unless the manual specifically calls for it. It really does require a torch to remove. Stick with the blue, it's plenty strong.

Not only that, but the poor sob that inherits this motor from you is going to use your name as a curse word if he's drilling out stripped fasteners w/ bits of red loctite on them.

Been there, done that.

Thanks for the foresight. It's a noble and ethical exercise to consider the next mariner who will inherit an outboard
