Re: Longest Cruise

About 3hrs for me. That doesn't add up to much mileage though, usually cruise about 6 knots.

I remember the first time my brother came up to visit me on the houseboat. I took him for a cruise around the bay, and then out thru the causeway into the broad lake. That probably took 2 hours. I let the boat drift for a bit, and as it was starting to get dark, my brother asked "shouldn't we be getting back home?"

I asked him "Back where? I'm already home".

Then we ate hotdogs. It was a good day.

Re: Longest Cruise

.......gotta have fuel to make that long of a trip. getting fuel has been my biggest obstacle for this type of fun....

As you point out, accomplishing a long cruise definitely takes some planning. Fuel can be scarce on some stretches of river. One must know the cruising range of their boat. If using a commercial cruising guide, CALL AND VERIFY the published information.

Re: Longest Cruise

what is the longest pleasure cruise you've taken in your privately owned boat .... I'm not taking about any sort of commercial trip .... for us it has been a 100+ mile cruise with two other couples on the Mississippi from Winona, Mn to Prairie du Chien, WI .... we've made that trip down and back three times and thoroughly enjoyed it .... going through the locks on the Mississippi has been a most interesting experience

Jim

Went from Maredoshia, IL., on the Illinois River, to Mobile Bay, AL., 1000 miles in a 1972 21 foot Starcraft Aluminun cuddy.
Now we want to spend a summer on the rivers. Problem is what boat to have for four persons and decent fuel consumption.
We've thought about a cuddy, houseboat, now our latest thought is a powered sailboat. Not sailing, just motoring.
What do you think?

Re: Longest Cruise

The two most memorable was when I/we were liveaboards.
1. Moving home (38' CHB Trawler) from San Francisco Bay to Tacoma WA. Learned a whole new meaning to fear and terror in the prep and actually doing the trip. (Myself, my youngest brother, and a very good friend made the trip) There were a few "Oh WOW, look at that" moments that were great, but not often enough on that trip. All open ocean trip in an itty bitty, tiny, little speck of the boat on the water.
2. Moving home again (41' Islander Freeport sailboat) from Anachortes Wa, to Ketchikan Alaska up the inside passage. Month long wonderful trip with the whole family aboard. (The wife, three kitties, and me). Brings a smile to my face every time I think about it.

Re: Longest Cruise

Learn something evry day, never thought of you as a blow boat sorta of guy,

Working on power boats paid good money and put food on the table, and paid the bills. ;)

Our boat was the gray and white one in the foreground.

Longest by time: 2 days in 16' canoe with my 6 year old son, 25 miles. Good times (11 years ago).

My longest was from Red Hook VI to Granada. Offshore 3 days in a hurricane condition. ( was actually from another island that we ported from ).

Trippy man . ..
