what is the longest pleasure cruise you've taken in your privately owned boat .... I'm not taking about any sort of commercial trip .... for us it has been a 100+ mile cruise with two other couples on the Mississippi from Winona, Mn to Prairie du Chien, WI .... we've made that trip down and back three times and thoroughly enjoyed it .... going through the locks on the Mississippi has been a most interesting experience

I can certainly understand that, my wife's maiden name was Gilligan ..:D.. one of the other ladies was her sister so there were two Gilligans on-board ... you can believe that was a topic of conversation ..

When I was younger, I went up the Hudson River in my speedboat. Over a long weekend, I ran about 300 miles R/T, camping along the way.

when we were on the Mississippi we saw boats of all shapes and sizes .... Lund makes a really nice boat that can handle conditions which many others can't

Not that I don't think she could make I'm just thinking it could get a little cramped.

Well, we haven't done it yet, but Lake Powell is on our to-do list for next year. There are three marinas you can't even drive to - you have to reach them by boat, and while Lake Powell has more miles of shoreline than the entire west coast, it's not all that long. A few years ago on a friends boat, it took most of a day to travel from Bullfrog to Dangling Rope and back. We will probably try to travel the entire length of the lake. Other than that, there's just not much to do around Colorado.

Lake Powell Marinas: http://www.canyon-country.com/lakepowell/marinas.htm

It's 55 water miles from Bullfrog to Dangling Rope, and another 40 from Dangling Rope to Wahweep at Page, AZ.

Re: Longest Cruise

When growing up my family spent summer vacations cruising on the boat for three weeks. We alternated years between going up the Hudson (from N.J.) though the Champlain canal system for two weeks on Lake Champlain (all the way to the Canadian boarder), and heading out east along the southern New England coast to Mystic, Cuttyhunk, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket.
Today it's pretty much limited to trailer stuff for me :( - This past spring my brother helped deliver a 30' catboat from N.J to Nova Scotia - would have been fun but they hit some sloppy weather.

I'd like to start in St. Paul, MN and go down to Winona, but I think that would cost SO much in gas. How fun would that be though. I'd love to spend a week or two on my boat, especially during the fall. Cruising down the river during the fall would be awesome.

well, my longest crusie wasn't on a boat. i did it on a pwc (several years ago). omaha to souix city on the missouri river. 105 miles one way.
it was one of my more memorable trips. took the slow ride up river (still made it in a day). then left my brand new (at the time) pwc at the public docks while i walked a couple blocks to over night at a hotel right by the marina. spent the next day going up river into non maintained missouri river (above souix city). then stayed over night again. came home the following day. 4-5 hours (if i remember right) to go 105 miles down river. that was the day i learned about having sun tan lotion on board. i didn't have any and came back red as a beat. both me and the 'ol lady got scalded that day and learned our lesson.
i've not had any great boat rides like this. can't do it now as best i know, both fuel depots got washed away in last years flood. i gotta have fuel to make that long of a trip. getting fuel has been my biggest obstacle for this type of fun... i've done shorter over nighters on the river since. camping on the beach over night. but they're not the same as that 105 miles of river running. man was that fun....

260 miles. From Sanford, Fl to Daytona Beach, Fl.

Up the St. Johns River, thru Jacksonville, down the ICW. 3 days and 260 miles to wind up 35 miles from where we started. And we've done it 6 times! I actually made the trip last year solo on our 40' Carver flybridge.

Re: Longest Cruise

140ish miles according to my GPS.

Splashed it in North Hudson, WI. Went up underneath the Stillwater, MN liftbridge, turned around and ran down to Hastings, MN. Turned up the Mississippi and ran all the way to the high bridge in St Paul. Turned around and went home. Filled up twice on the river.

Re: Longest Cruise

My dad and I took the old 12 ft boat and 6hp Evinrude 16 miles one way including 4 beaver dams and a 200 yard portage into an incredibly beautiful lake off the Lake Despair Chain in Ontario. I forget how long it took but it was a long one. We pitched camp after dark and woke up to find we were sleeping on a wild blueberry patch. That was a good trip.

Re: Longest Cruise

Ok, well now you're talking! I may not trailer very far, but long boat cruising is what I have done.

in 1999 I went from Louisville, KY to Pittsburgh, PA, 600 miles up the Ohio River on a Sea Ray 265 with my parents. In 5 days. (We trailered back to Louisville, due to time constraint.)

In 2000 we went from Sarasota, FL to Key West and back in my parent's Chaparral Signature 27, in 9 days. Not sure how to figure the mileage on that one, but it had to be close to 500 miles round trip, maybe a touch more. 4 boats total on that cruise.

In 2001 Went went from Daytona Beach, FL to Charleston, SC and back, 650ish miles, (9 total days) on their Chaparral Signature 300. My future wife was with us that time, as well as another boat.
