Not to belabor the point but the "any advice" referred to brands and models, which was the subject of my post. As I mentioned, in the future I will certainly be much more specific if I post again.

Have a good weekend, and see ya in church :)

Thanks John,
Yes, we're talking sheltered waters. And actually a 24 or 25 with a 5.7 would really fit the bill. If you're happy with your boat can you send me the specs?

If you read the post I already have a 4.3L cabin cruiser so am aware of gas costs. But hey, that's ok.

HA.... now that's funny...... I drive a ford escort so I'm well aware of the fuel cost for a 4x4 dually:rolleyes:

The fact is this is a public forum and you are not PAYING for ANY of this advice..... If anyone is kind enough to take the time to type ANYTHING here that they think might be helpful to you, a wise person would say thanks. Even if they say something you already know OR something you don't care to know, the next thing they say just MIGHT be priceless to you.

Repower what you've got?

Discuss amongst yourselves.

I assume you're talking to me? I don't have the boat any longer. It was a 1999 Chris Craft 240 express. Single Volvo-Penta 280 hp 5.7 with the FI and duo-prop drive. There used to be a 'boattest' archive around but I can't find it now. IMO, the hull and powerplant were perfectly matched and it'd top 40 easily with 2 aboard and a full tank of fuel. It weighed 5250 lbs dry.

The pro's were:
- Excellent build quality and materials.
- Excellent rough water hull design with 22 deg. deadrise at the stern. NEVER pounded and was more capable in snotty conditions than the 27' in my sig.
- As already mentioned, it went like a raped ape and only used about 10 gph at a 25 mph cruise. I had upgraded to it from a 21' with a 175 hp outboard, and I saw essentially no difference in fuel consumption between the 2.

The cons:
- That deep-v hull took a toll on the overall cabin design. The cabin sole had to sit higher in the hull to get any width to it. That meant the cabin ceiling was higher than usual to provide headroom, and THAT resulted in a steeply sloping bow design that was difficult/dangerous to maneuver around when anchoring. The downward slope from the windshield to bow was just scary.

I couldn't recommend it for weekending. As good as the hull was, it wasn't a good choice for a pocket cruiser.

Every manufacturer make an express in the 24-25' range. A high horsepower 5.7 and dual prop, or a big block will get you the speed you're looking for.

NYbo, That is an option I may consider if I don't get a fair price for the Bayliner. It's out on consignment.

Thanks JoLin,

Good to know, and too bad as I looked up that model and it's a sharp looking boat.

I greatly appreciate extra information even if not solicited. This is how I learn and grow. If I already know the information it is still greatly appreciated as you never know who else can benefit. I do not think one can ever gather too much information. Thank you! :)

My Cruisers 2870 Rogue will top out over 45mph, best I've seen is 48mph with 2 adults, full tank of gas and all the assorted gear that a cruiser seems to attract. Price wise, mine was $20k 3 years ago, including a triple axle galvanized trailer.

Well if fuel costs and getting knocked around is not a consideration I would look at the stingray 250CS or 240CS. Stingray has good quality and the hull is the 25 foot Bow Rider hull that they put a cabin on top of. They go pretty fast.

I was going to reply with a number of options, but the OP might not like them. I'll keep to myself.

Agallant80,
Thanks much, I looked at the Stingrays and like what I saw. Good to know the quality is there. Cheers.

When I bought my boat it was down to the stingray 250CS or the bayliner 255CR. I liked the bayliner a bit better, mainly the large windows and the dealer was offering a pretty decent price on the bayliner so I bit. I don't regret my decision but I do miss going fast on the lake.
