I just got back from a gambling trip to lousiana in lake charles. What in the world is wrong with your paving crews over there. I didn't see a smooth piece of pavement or asphault anywhere, Its like driving with flats!
I was Ohhhh so happy to be back in texas.

Really! Is there a ... Nature related problem or what? Only problem we have here in texas really is during the summer the asphault wont stay hard because of the heat and the heavy trucks will make ruts in it. Seriously I think my truck gave a sigh of relieve once i hit the texas side of that bridge on I-10. I cant imagine the suspension on vehicles lasting very long like that.... Steamboat Bills was pretty great!

AZ-Phoenix. Best highways in the world. Smooth, flat and sometimes, seven lanes, in areas.

So, what do we get??? "Snowbirds". Right blinker on since Kansas City (turned right there). Left lane-doing 45. Rest of traffic is doiing 65-80.

It's fun/scary to watch George and Martha move their land yacht, over seven lanes, to get to their exit. All to get to a "park" where they can complaign about the PHX traffic. Interesting, since we don't HAVE trafiic. Not in an east coast or So. Cal. sense.

I have several RV parks within a few miles of my home. Unfortuneately, they are in the path of many of my travels; airport, etc. One has to be VERY careful. You never know when the WWII vet, driving a German or Japanese car, is going to pull out in front of you. Amarican flag-flying!

Well I did some research on it and us Texans seem to be pretty lucky in that area. Sorry guys I didn't know I was spoiled. :D I live right in the path of the Corpus Christi/South Padre snowbirds..... I know all about them. No offense to the older gents here But.... Just because you can afford the trailer house on wheels, doesn't mean you have the eyesight or cooridination to drive or pull them. The wrecker owners and hospitals get lots of business from them around here.

Bingo! Pun intended!

Anyway, you are "spot on". I would not feel comfoteable, driving one of the Class A's, they drive down here at 52 years old-much less-75+.

It was a very difficult decision, for my brother and I, to take away my mothers car. But, it was the right one.

She has since passed but we have no regrets.

I hope my chidren will make the same decesioin. When they do, I'll just be "Grandpa". A special place.

I think a "chauffuer" is in my future.

Here in the Natural State we have some really good roads and some reeeeeeeeeally bad ones. They've been working on I40 since Pontius was a Pilate. Hopefully Highway 67 is on the radar, then I30 west of the teeming metropolis of Malvern.

We're lucky here in TX for sure, but that state to the West is the worst I've ever driven on ever! Tiny lanes, low speed limit and NO maintenence!

If you think the roads are bad, check out the sidewalks! I nearly fell flat on my face when I stepped in a hole in the middle of one while in New Orleans.

America's friendliest hometown, not saying why it has this title but it keeps the Dr's busy.

Actually not.

The restuarants, etc.-here- are always full-12 months.

The local establishment owners don't like them. They "birds" complaign, a lot, and leave NO tips for the hardworking foodservers. Not to mention, all the sugar and "alternative to" are gone. When you are in the resturant business-turnover-is king. You can't have "lingerers", that will stay for hours. Why? Business.

I went into the bank yesterday, "snowbird rich environment" for a simple notary signature. It took me one half hour to wait and listen to complaints. About what? They did not understand "full service" has changed. By the way, my local bank is VERY full service but they won't spend an hour and a half with you to hear about all of your life. Any issues they had should have been settled at home.

I love the elderly, they are rich in history and information (lest we repeat it). Yet, when they get out of their home environment they turn into different people.

My idea of retirement is-NOT. I plan to work, needed or not (won't be), until I tip over. Never STILL.

My best friend has owned motor homes for the last 30 years or so and I have driven most of them at one time or another. They are deceptively easy to drive UNTIL you get a 20 mph or so cross wind. Then it gets interesting. I've driven 18 wheelers in the past so have some feel for the size of the vehicles, but 18's don't get pushed around by the wind anything like a motor home.

My friend gets really torqued on this subject saying that his guys have to have a CDL to drive a 1-ton mini-dump while any wrinkled geezer with a check book can jump in a 36 ft Class A with nothing more than the license he had to drive his Buick, which he also didn't do well. Not quite verbatim, but you get the drift.

Bingo! Law is law but make it universal.

Re: Louisiana's Roads Suck!

Come on, gents. This thread belongs to Ray and he wants to talk about road conditions.

Discussions about elderly drivers and snowbirds have nothing to do with that.
