Low cost analyzer for setting OIS2000 timing

Further to my post a few weeks back regarding the OMC optical ignition analyzer, I have designed and built an electronic analyzer which allows you to easily set the ignition timing on motors equipped with the OMC optical (OIS2000) ignition system (60 degree V6 motors from 1991 to 2003 and V4's from about 1995).

The analyzer allows you to set the timing accurately without running the motor (as detailed in the service manuals) and is the most convenient way of setting timing. I believe that analyzers cost in excess of US$300 from OMC or about US$200 for an aftermarket version.

If there is enough interest, I could put together a few additional units for other OMC DIY'ers. Obviously, I would need to charge for these but should be able to supply them at a lot lower price than the existing units.

Note that this device can be used for setting the ignition timing statically, but it doesn't do the dynamic timing sensor test which the OMC analyzer does.

If you are interested, for further details email me at:
Seasport1@hotmail.com

Re: Low cost analyzer for setting OIS2000 timing

I hate to bring back such an old thread, but I am wondering if anyone has the directions for the DIY ignition analyzer Seasport has made. I have tried to e-mail him, but no luck. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Rodney

Sorry, Rodney.

SeaSport's ad would not be allowed by current forum rules. He probably made a bazillion bux (US) with his invention and moved to. . .um, wherever Kiwis go to retire.

Not a problem, sorry for the oversight. I thought he had free directions with a parts list he emailed to people.

Thanks,
Rodney

What a shame. Someting that actually saves DIYers money is illegal on this forum. I can see selling and bartering etc but a link to somthing useful... gosh it's like being politically correct; there is a need for exceptions to every rule!
