Hi everybody...
Isn't boating fun until your broke? :(

One question, I've been trying to remove the dreaded lower swivel pin on a 1992 Bravo 1 outdrive so I can remove the gimbel ring. I've soaked it with Kroil and tried lite heat and it doesn't seem to want to move. So to the question is the pin a aluminum alloy or stainless? It appears soft because when using a screwdriver in the lower slot the driver starts opening the slot larger but I would think if it was aluminum it would not last long.
The reason for the question is because I'm thinking about cutting the pin top and bottom to remove it.

Thanks Tom

Re: Lower swivel pin

If you cut the top pin you will be removing the motor and transom housing to make repairs!!!!!!!
After removing the cotter pin ,you just have to coax it into moving ,you would like to use some type of tool to press it out verses hammering it out

Find a way to press it out.....
If you damage or break the casting, you will be installing a new gimbal hou$ing.....:(

Re: Lower swivel pin

Got the pin out, I ended up cutting the lower pin above and below the gimbal ring so the gimbal ring could be removed. Then drilled a hole through the center of the pin to allow a easyout to grab the pin and heated the housing with Mapp gas. Came out without any marks on the gimbal housing.:p
If the pin is not aluminum it must be magnesium because it is soft as butter.
