lower unit clicking noise

i just relaced my water pump now it makes a clicking noise when turned only turns ?way .................WHY

i replaced the water pump on my 87' 115 horsepower mariner and now it makes a clicking noise when i turn my prop and it doesnt go into neutral. It only turns clockwise.

The clicking noise is normal for forward gear. Your shift shaft is not properly aligned.

You likely need to take the lower unit off again and manually make sure the lower unit is in neutral and make sure your shifter is also in neutral and reassemble. That should fix your problem.
