I have noticed that Lund boats seem to present with a premium asking price...is this a premium, quality made boat to match the price?

Re: Lund Boats

All I know is that I have one that I bought used 34 years ago and have used it hard and it still works fine with no leaks. A 14 footer, it runs like the proverbial striped ape with a 35hp. Very safe and stable boat if used with common sense. Sometimes I haven't had common sense and still am around.

Re: Lund Boats

Both my father and my brother have had Lund boats in the past. One was a mid-80's Tyee dual console with a walk through windshield I think that one was 16'. The other was a 14' side console, no windshield. It was older than the Tyee. They are well built and they do last. I would personally take an older lund over many of the newer boats out there. I'm not sure about the newer Lund boats. Haven't really looked at them but have no reason to believe that they have changed.

Re: Lund Boats

It's the quality and the consistency. Lund have produced consistently good boats with no gaps or "avoid these models/years" issues.

I think it's just a confidence thing. If I see a Lund boat and it hasn't been visibly damaged, I'm 99% certain it will be leak free no matter how much it's been used. They were and are just that good and that's generally reflected in the asking and sale prices.

I'd say it's a simiar situation with some fiberglass makes like Searay.

They are (last I knew) made in my state. They have an extremely good reputation for quality. Used they often go for more than comparable boats by other mfg.

Re: Lund Boats

I have a 1984 Lund S14 DLX with side console. Boat is very stable, extremely durable and still doesn't leak a drop. I bought it used for an almost give-away price but it had been neglected. Left out in the weather uncovered and the wood decking and wood bench seat tops had seen better days. I didn't even bicker the asking price with the guy.

Replaced all wood and carpet and it is now worth more than double what I paid for it. It's also a fine fishing platform for smaller to medium size lakes.

Lunds are really good boats. With only 2 exceptions, I think all the aluminum boats are also pretty darn good.

Re: Lund Boats

Well, I'm on my 5th Lund (trading up over the years) and you couldn't get me in another boat. My last Lund was a 89 Tyee (notice my signature) 1750 I.O. It got rear ended by a semitruck. That said, if guy new how to rework the transome the rest of the boat was fine, loved that boat.
Then the eye openner was when I wanted to replace the boat, , they're either beat to s... or they are pretty nice and still command a premium price.
My replacement boat is a 1995 Tyee 1850 Signature Series, 4.3 H.O. and a Volvo Duo Prop outdrive. He was asking $9750.00 and I got it for $8700. Brand new it would run upwards of $35K or more.
I've ridden in other 17 and 18 foot aluminum boats on some 1-3 foot chop and the one thing I noticed imediatley was the front of the boat flexing when we hit the waves. you'd never see that in a Lund.
The other comment I get when we were in my othre Tyee and heading into the big stuff is "man my boat would never take this".
Just my .02
Oh, they are made in New York Mills Minnesota, always have been.

Re: Lund Boats

If I were to buy another aluminum boat that's not a Starcraft it would either be a Sea Nymph(same as a Starcraft in design) or a Lund.

The Lund hull is more solidly constructed as mentioned and built to last. So are many aluminum boats...that's why you see so many still floating.

The Trackers are notoriously bad for cracked welds. Properly riveted(ie double rivets on all seams) hulls are better in my opinion.

The Blue Fin Spectrums just have too much carpet:p:D

That makes sense, Lund sounds like a good Norwegian name.

Re: Lund Boats

Lund makes an excellent boat and because of that some of the dealers don't want to discount much off sticker price.

Starcraft makes an equally nice boat and some of those dealers act the same way.

Put a Lund dealer in the same town as a Starcraft dealer and watch the prices drop.

I bought a new Starcraft last year because i liked the color and seating arrangement better. I had a Lund price quote in hand on their competitive model and ended up getting over 15% off the dealer's sale price.
