ok per FR i have done the test with an ohm meter
magento plate to con. insulated side of points at the cond con. =
o.oo ohms with pts closed and 1.0 k ohm with points open
from magento plate to the spark plug boot is 10 k ohm on each
spark plug wire. i am bypassing the switch to see if that is the problem
i have been testing with the swith in on position.....as of now the
two wires coming from the magneto going to the cut off swith and the
ignition with are disconected.......and i am bypassing the starter solenoid....
any thoughts would be appreciated.........
should the coil wires one to ground and one to points have a closed connection between them, should a coninuity tester from one wire to the ohter show continuity......i am trying to check the coils and see if they
have shorted out internally...the reading from the gound ciol wire and the coil wire to the points when unhooked from points is 1
are all my connections correcte and my coils good..........

Re: magneto help again

With coil disconnected from everything the resistance between the points wire and ground wire should be about one ohm. That is the same reading you should get when they are connected and the points are open. I don't understand where your 1.0k is coming from.

Your 0.0 with points closed is good, as is the 10k on plug wires. Actually, 10k on plug wires is a tad more than I would expect, but it's likely OK. Coils vary in resistance according to mfr.

it may be 1 ohm not 1 k ohm
but all the rest is correct

Re: magneto help again

Then it should have spark if it's put together right. Is the ground wire present on the mag plate? Not broken? Are the coils connected to the correct set of points? The lead goes to the set of points to the right of the coil. The points are gapped at .020" at their widest opening, right? Don't know what else to tell you...gotta be something simple like that.
