Just stumbled across your thread. Man what an awesome job you are doing! Switching to outboards is a good decision. I know alot of people talk about the center of gravity shifting when bolting on a bracket. Hopefully you won't have any troubles with that.

Re: Magnumdekes 1976 22' Starcraft Islander

All riight full disclosure, I called the transom fully done, not quite, tonight we had to put in 20 1/4 20 boltes around the perimeter with 3m55200 to seal them. These bolts are the normal ones that are used to hold the transom together on the edges. I probally had less than 20 and way less than were originally in it, when I took it apart they were spaced every 4" vertically and every 6" horizontally, I just went every 6". We also had to tey to recover from a F up on the epoxy on the wood that was done on Saturday. My boys applied the epoxy and I showed them the 3 to 1 one ratio and use the egg beater to mix. Well as of today there were still a few pieces that were still wet, like real wet not cureing. I checked the two cups of resin that were left with some in them, (standard procedure, leave some in and when it gets hard remove hockey puck and reuse cup) the cups had hard resin on top and the bottom was liquid. So we mixed a hot batch of resin and covered the uncured resin. I hope this will cure the wet resin, it probally won't huh??????????????? am I better washing those pieces of wood with acetone and starting over or should I just get new wood and start over?? I don't know? anyways no pictures and I will admit not having my hands on everything= haste-=waste!!! Gotta trust your help and I must not have done my supervisor job.

Rare QUESTION, Am I screwed on my pieces that didn't set up, or will a coat over top cured them?? OOOOPPPPS!

I don't know for sure on center of gravity,BUTT>>> I am pretty confident that I have a plan for that. Fuel tanks forward, batts. forward and a outboard bracket float pod that will float500 lbs. I think I am ahead of the curve on it. Lotta research, if I lose on this it will not be from not doing the math. I believe hull design is the limiting factor for sure! I am also willing to add ballast as needed!

How big a motor you going to hang on there? Would that be a 20" or 25"?

I'm not a chemist, nor do I play 1 on TV, and haven't stayed in a Holiday Inn Express in months, but, if it is anything like poly resin, under-catalyzed poly resin will cure w/ resin applied over it. Whether it cures as strong, or bonds as well, I don't know. But on a thread here somewhere (glasser resto) some portion of the rebuild didn't get enough MEKP mixed into the resin & the OP was directed to layup another layer of cloth & correctly catalyzed resin & the under-catalyzed resin would kick.

It may tend to crack like concrete that dries too quick on the surface. Tomorrow should tend to give you an indication of whether or not the epoxy is starting to cure or if the under-catalyzed epoxy just needs to be scraped off.........

I had some epoxy once that wouldn't cure. I went back over it with a fresh batch and it set up fine. I'm pretty sure you will be AOK.

150 is a 25" and 15 is long shaft, both run and pump water, owner is willing to water test

Sure you wouldn't want more power being you're in the v-6 weight already with that 150?

Hmmmm...25" is harder to find though. A grand??? Sell the trailer and whatever else, break even?

If the issues are only cosmetic and you have some history about it, then I'd think maybe 1,000 for the 150....?

I don't know, if it runs well I would have to think its worth a little more, not that I want to pay more, just aren't a lot of em for sale

Compression check???
only way I would roll, compression on both and a water test being he swears they run strong, also check spark quality,(gap test) and scope the top of the pistons, cylinder walls for a visual check.
I just hate the exterior condition, leads me to believe rode hard put away wet but if they just sat uncovered??? may look better in person. and oh ya, glasser to deal with.:facepalm: nice trailer though, 20.5' boat on there, might fit the Islander better than the one its on.
Just like everything for this boat it is a little cruise away so I want my ducks lined up before I roll out!

Well if they pass all your tests, it looks like you found your power. What year is the 150? Hope it works out for ya!

Re: Magnumdekes 1976 22' Starcraft Islander

pair of 1991's, should be loopers I think, little off of my game on the outboards. Need to get educated on it a little more. Not a whaler, may be a fine boat but not what I need, to heavy and itchy for me.

Yeah, looper for sure. 1985 was the first year, that's what my 140 is. Everything I've read on mine is they are great motors. Is the VRO still on it? My VRO was taken off before the PO took delivery when it was new.
