Good cause and nice bike Pauly sure does have a good eye for design even with all the drama that surrounds him! I likw the way he wrapped the pipes on both sides.

This bike is one hundred percent a work of art!! Moves pretty well also. Been a great experience and a privilege to be involved in this project!

Re: Magnumdekes 1976 22' Starcraft Islander

For future reference
8oz per cup
For 1 qt paint
6oz of Acetone & 6oz of Majic's Reducer. In High Temps use Acrylic Enamel High Temp Reducer sold at some Auto Supply stores. I used Acme Finish 1.)
2oz of Hardener (1/4 cup/4Tablespoons)
(NOTE: Only add Hardener to the amount of Paint that you will use in an 8hr period.) DO NOT use after this 8hr period.

I mixed up 2 cups (1/2 qt) at a time using 1oz of hardener, 3/4 cup of reducer.

One Quart should yield two coats of Paint.
Shoot first coat in the morning.
Wait 4-8 hours.
Wet sand with Scotch rite Pad LIGHTLY to knock down any nubs or bugs.
Dry.
Tack cloth off with 50/50 mix of Mineral Spirits and Acetone.
Dry.
Shoot second Coat.
Let dry over night
Repeat wet sand and Tack cloth
Shoot 3rd and 4th coat if needed.
Thanks Woodonglass

Re: Magnumdekes 1976 22' Starcraft Islander

No progress lately, real busy with work!!!! 3 weeks straight, taking this weekend off to work on my stuff, in Kentucky again and cant wait to get home and work on the boat!
Did do some mock ups and staring at the hull to try to figure out how to use the fuel tank out of OL Dauntless
tank1.jpg

And after a lot of measuring and soul searching,

100_1674.jpg

100_1667.jpg

100_1670.jpg

Plywood represents footprint of tank and tape measure represents, UMMM measuring:rolleyes: LOL, Basically comes down to how I want the floor laid out and seat boxes done. Equals a no go on the aluminum tank. Sucks but I cant make it fit the way I need to keep everything clean. So 50 gal fuel tank for sale, go Craigs list!!

Re: Magnumdekes 1976 22' Starcraft Islander

So I wanted a two tank set up from the beginning, was gonna do one on each side standing up against the hull, looked at using this,
032524_07131_72dpi.jpg

then this
032818_07125_72dpi.jpg

Then decided on putting one under the seat box on each side and using this 19 gallon unit, but didn't like the pick up location,
032719_07128_72dpi-1.jpg

Now I have decided to put 2 of these in, one on each side. 25 gals a piece
032525_07133_72dpi.jpg

Lil more money than planned, but I will be able to keep my in floor rod locker and be able to have my battery's under my feet and have 50 gals. of fuel available. Will all make more sense once we can all visualize it, gonna scan a drawing in when I get back to the office!

Sorry for the rambling but it is all I have for progress to show, lil bit of mental wrangling, (maybe my head isn't healed after all:eek:) or maybe it's just my Jas battery moment!!LOL:D

It's not the same total capacity (34g vs 50gal) but these look like their going to fit pretty well in the seat boxes:
The tanks won't fit the wide way, I only have about 20" or so to work with in that direction, but I don't wanna put 'em that way anyway. The filler is on the long side and the vent and outlet are on the short end:

I think 34 gallons should be plenty for the trips I plan on taking.

Yep, said it before, busted watch is still right twice a day.

If you go w/ smaller tanks, there may be room in 1 of the seat boxes (or under the splashwell) for a 5-6g can of extra fuel for the big water trips, but wouldn't be needed for 'regular' shorter runs. At 50%-75 WOT, what kind of running time will that motor give ya on 34gallons?

I typed gals, & had a chicken wing 'owl' themed restaurant vision... Jeez, I gotta eat or sleep better, probably both...

Well still struggling with the fuel tank choice, it is down to two choices.
25 gallon
032525_07133_72dpi.jpg

or this 18 gallon
032518_07121_72dpi_zps125481b3.jpg

Plan is to build a 6' box on each side that is 12" tall and 20" wide, and segment it into two compartments, one for batteries and one for the fuel tank. I will foam the fuel tank in to keep it from moving. The 25 gal. tank is 47" long and the 18 is 37". I like the shorter tank becausr it leaves more room for batteries and chargers. one side will have two batts for the bow mount and a charger with the option of a third batt. if I end up with a 36volt troller. The other side will have three batts, two linked together for main motor and electronics and one for the kicker on a switch so I can start the main if i have an issue. I know it is a lot of batteries but I hate being stranded, and I love my Ipilot bow mount. I am flip flopping on tank size because of the potential for longer trips on lake Mi. when the salmon are deep and on long runs on Erie and Sag. bay. I still really want the 18 gallon because the battery tray will have more room. Will 36 gallons be enough?? gotta make a decision and order em up and get past this. All comes down to what I really need for fuel capacity, most of my fishing really is short hops, salmon will change that some what, but I really am not going to be able to fill 50 gallons on a regular basis and not be broke at 4$ a gallon anyways. 36 or 50 is the decision to be made. Oh well, done rambling for now, Mag out and off to bed!!

If this boat is to be strictly fishing (trolling) I'd guess the 36 gallons would be totally fine. If your thinking real long round trip runs I'd go with the 50 gal set up (thirsty OB).

I can't imagine having 5 or 6 batts in a boat, wough baby! I'm only going with two, course I'm just running a 2 stroke kicker.

Guess what, made my mind up today and ordered some goodies,
18 gal tank

Seat

Slider/swivel base designed to mount to a seat box
19555-1-lg_zps2d642fd7.jpg

Just enough to get one side mocked up and verify this set up will work in my rig!! pumped, got decent prices and should work sweet! I am quite a ways from being ready for seats and tanks but it is all apart of the big picture, and I want to know how it is going to be set up. Got a side job to do the first part of this week that should pay for my paint I need for the hull and interior, I will get this job done and it will be back to rocking out on the boat. paint and flooring for the hull are the two week goal! want to end up with a close copy of this
4975540_4.jpg

I may skip the rear seats and have the seat box go to the end for more storage, same carpet color and end the carpet at the back of the seat box and have painted floor in the rear for a cleanable fishin deck. also will be a floor rod locker running up the center like a ski locker. What ya think?
See ya tomorrow!

Boy, I am all over the place and I know it. On that note, for you out board lovers the rehab of my 15hp kicker is in progress. Thread is in my signature. Duck season is upon us and instead of dumping money into my 10hp that is on my jon boat I figured I would get the 15 going and run that for this year. 10 hp is due for carb and impeller work so thats the direction I am going on the motor front for now. Besides I want to hear the 15 running,:D was pretty cobbled up when I bought it!!
So little time and so much to do!!!! Gotta get some hunting and fishing in this fall!!
Later.
