Well,
It's good to see some more progress. been there done that. even the tinny guys had to shovel foam. lol
Sone it will be going in the other direction and you will be putting it back together.
My weapon of choice was a toe kick saw. it allowed me to get very close to the hull.
Have fun

Okay: Taking a big, comedic risk here that some of you might find this remotely funny:

Just having a little fun being stupid. No one get their feelings hurt.

That is priceless.

Yeah, I don't think he knew what he was getting in to. I sort of pulled the "bait and switch" on him..

Me: "Hey man, do you want to come check out the boat..."

Him: "Sure, I'd love to see it"

Me (upon arrival): "Okay, Here is a pry bar and a shovel, get crackin."

In all seriousness, he was a great sport and huge help. I offered him the white jump suit, but he declined. I made him wear a mask and also made him get out of the boat when we got into the grinding.

Your friend sounds like my friend, always willing to help but never wants to be safe about it :) He is a great guy and i would get very little done with out him......... he thinks he is a human forklift, and that his lungs have a built in respirator and his eyeballs are impervious to anything smaller than a 27mm chain gun round(thats what eyelashes are for right?). I always spend more time telling him to put his PPE on than i do working on the darned projects.

Re: Man vs. Boat (season 1, episode 5).

Guys: Awhile back (pages 2 and 3) I discussed the possibility of converting my boat to sun-deck with captain's chairs. I stumbled across an ebay listing for my exact boat (well 2 years older) that has been converted to this set-up. I would appreciate you guys taking a look at this listing and letting me know your thoughts. There were some concerns about losing floor space, and I must say it does look a little "tight" configured this way. I know the sun-deck is nice and the seating availability is basically the same, but I don't want my boat to feel cramped, "over modified". etc... I must admit my first reaction is second thoughts when looking at these pictures.

Here is the listing. thanks.

when you first look at it with the capn' chairs turned it does look a little cramped, but at the same time it is a bow rider so there is room up front. if you were doing a lot of fishing it MIGHT pose an issue or be used as a casting deck..... Personally for "family" time boating i like it and that's the plan i have for mine if i can ever get back to it. for fishing time, just have to learn to work around it.... More importantly, what's the wife think????:D:eek:

Re: Man vs. Boat (season 1, episode 5).

This vessel is going to pure fun... I do like to fish (a lot) - see my avatar, so my next project (if I ever get this one splashed) is probably going to be a single purpose fishing machine. I may even go metal with an outboard (did I just say that out loud?). Of course, that is light years away given where I am in this project.

Roger, if you look a little closer, you will see that these old lancers are closed bow runabouts.... The walk through windshield is basically just to access the docking cleats and some storage just fore of the consoles. Then, you pretty much dead-end at a couple of kick plates where the gas tank goes. So, all of my seating would by right there bunched together.

EZ seems to dig it, though, and I can certainly respect his opinion...I think he's been around a boat or two.

I appreciate you guys taking a look. I'm just glad I was able to stumble across those pictures (nice to see a real world preview of what you are thinking about doing to your boat).

Hey man, welcome to the Chris Craft Clan. I swear one day I'm going to start a forum named the Chris Craft Clan! Anyway, great thread man. The best thing about this project is your kids will really enjoy this whole process with you. Its awesome that you are sharing the experience with them. Awesome videos to boot and preety good comedian to, though we need a follow up bashing the tinnies, lol

I will enjoy following your thread. The boat you posted in the ebay post was popular back then and I love the looks of it on the Lancers. I think on the 19 footer though, you will be better off having more open space especially with all those kids. I hope to be able to pick one of these up some day and do a restore myself. They are timeless hull designs and have a great following. Good luck with the rest of the restore.:)

If your looking for design ideas, chris craft is making new lancers today that look sharp. Also if you do a google search for lancer pics, it brings up alot.

Heres a couple pics for inspiration. Also a sales brochure with layout. Sorry, couldn't find one from 75 year

Re: Man vs. Boat (season 1, episode 5).

hi patrick....just got back in from the house boat...and i saw your vid....mrs oops had to stop me from going to jump off a bridge.

but it looks like the tear down is going successfully.

in the pics of the e-bay modded chris craft....that is standard loss with going to a bench.....about 15 inches from where your doghouse used to be. (by the way....he does not have 4 grand invested in the interior of that boat....its 2k tops) you might be able to get away by pushing the bulkhead a little closer toward the motor, and only loosing say 12 inches. but that is the trade off you are up against.....

the other way you can do what you want and not loose the space.....is to take a page from bayliner....the seat portions of the rear jumper seats were built so they could be raised to the height of the top of the dog house, and make a sunpad.... the sun pad is narrow......but it is the best of both worlds.

the thing to do is after the deck is in, and the motor installed.......throw your old dog house back in and start measuring

Re: Man vs. Boat (season 1, episode 5).

by the way........it is most improtant that you do not post pictures of your doaner boat.

and after you take all the parts form the doaner boat.......that you burn the hull.....

Starcraft owners religiously believe all Starcrafts must be built from metal and have reevits

If you post real life pictures of Starcraft actually making a boat from fibreglass and not metal, there could be mass suicides

CC254:
Thanks for jumping in. I really appreciate you posting those pics. I love the old 70s-era promo materials... And Yes, I have a looked at some of the new Lancers - Wow!

Oops:
As always, you are killing me. To be completely honest, I didn't even know SC made fiberglass boats until a couple of weeks ago, because their tinny models have such a loyal following. You don't see many of those down south.
