Re: Manatee Rebuild 1976
mmmm fiberglass...
obviously it'll get paint on the ouside. No color scheme or colors picked out yet. As far as the inside, I have no knowledge of PO since I got it from a dealer (I really wanted the trailer). So I'm thinking a few inspection holes in the deck to check for wet foam. Floor is solid but I want to be sure. If it's wet then a new deck, stringers, foam, etc... The transom has been rebuilt in the past, but still solid(evidenced by the sloppy work, but it'll clean up). Opinion on deck carpet or textured surface is still out. I'm kinda partial to a captians seat at the helm and lounger for the first mate and custom seating (bench at the back) and we must have a swim ladder. I'm going to rebuild the 73 65hp envinrude after the block gets bored or honed or other repairs (low compression in the middle cylinder). I might add a tilt/trim kit since I'll have to replace the lift assist shock. steering and controls and wiring are all good front to back. Was thinking mounting a 12 - 15 gallon fuel tank up front and keeping a 6gal reserve in the back. front weight will be ofset by rear fuel and coolers and gear etc. I like the wood sides you put on but I'm thinking about good vinyl maybe a button tuck design if I have the energy (love old chevys interior).
Kinda agressive but I'll have the time in a few weeks. We are looking forward to it. I could probably afford a much newer nicer boat but we really like the style and look of this. Heck we can have the same fun either way but knowing we made it "ours" is "priceless"
We get poeple asking about our 1963 Aristocraft all the time "brings back memories" they say. I'm gathering photos in prepareation for creating a new thread here. I'm thinking photobucket or similar with more detailed comments attached. I can't wait for the grandkids to go boating this summer... I'll never forget my POPpop and the time we spent in the back bays and river at Corsons inlet (woodbine, nj), Except the smell maybe
