mmmm fiberglass...
obviously it'll get paint on the ouside. No color scheme or colors picked out yet. As far as the inside, I have no knowledge of PO since I got it from a dealer (I really wanted the trailer). So I'm thinking a few inspection holes in the deck to check for wet foam. Floor is solid but I want to be sure. If it's wet then a new deck, stringers, foam, etc... The transom has been rebuilt in the past, but still solid(evidenced by the sloppy work, but it'll clean up). Opinion on deck carpet or textured surface is still out. I'm kinda partial to a captians seat at the helm and lounger for the first mate and custom seating (bench at the back) and we must have a swim ladder. I'm going to rebuild the 73 65hp envinrude after the block gets bored or honed or other repairs (low compression in the middle cylinder). I might add a tilt/trim kit since I'll have to replace the lift assist shock. steering and controls and wiring are all good front to back. Was thinking mounting a 12 - 15 gallon fuel tank up front and keeping a 6gal reserve in the back. front weight will be ofset by rear fuel and coolers and gear etc. I like the wood sides you put on but I'm thinking about good vinyl maybe a button tuck design if I have the energy (love old chevys interior).

Kinda agressive but I'll have the time in a few weeks. We are looking forward to it. I could probably afford a much newer nicer boat but we really like the style and look of this. Heck we can have the same fun either way but knowing we made it "ours" is "priceless"

We get poeple asking about our 1963 Aristocraft all the time "brings back memories" they say. I'm gathering photos in prepareation for creating a new thread here. I'm thinking photobucket or similar with more detailed comments attached. I can't wait for the grandkids to go boating this summer... I'll never forget my POPpop and the time we spent in the back bays and river at Corsons inlet (woodbine, nj), Except the smell maybe :D.

Re: Manatee Rebuild 1976

I will say I loved the Perfection paint. Its a two part paint and it goes on so well and has lots of color choices. Its great if the floor is solid and the transom. My gas tank is 18 gal and sits in the rear of the boat and It has no issues as far a balance so I wouldnt worry about installing the gas tank up front. I have been around my boat since new. It has been repowered three times. It started with a 84 HP Merc. The a 115HP Merc and now a 150 HP Johnson. The 150 Hp has so much more punch. I am told because its a V Six instead of the inline 6 of the 115 Merc. I did love that tower of Power though and how it sounded. I gave it to the guy that helped me restore the boat to help off set the payment.

I love the classic look of the boat. Manatee's always seemed to come in bright colors. My friend who's dad bought him the boat when we were both 16 son in law owned Jackson Marine. One of the largest Marina at the time. He knew boats very well so I am sure it was a very good boat in the day. I was impressed with the boat since new. I have spent hundreds of hours on this boat.

Good luck with the build. Covered Nylon sides is what my boat had originaly.

Great job on the boat! I just got a 1974 Manatee looks just like your boat...well except it has 37 years of weare and tear on her. I am going to enjoy it this summer (as I have been out about 15 times allready) and start a restoration in the fall. Thanks for posting all the info I will need it!

Hi my name is Wally, live in southeast alabama. I just recently traded for a 1987 19 foot Manatee. The floor is soft between the joist but there isn't holes in it as far as I can see. You said you did your floors awhile back and from what I can see of them in the pics you post on your repairs they look very good. When you get the time I would very much like to know how you did your floors. The boat I got needs some work and I will visit this site often. Will start my own thread when I start redoing the boat. Any help/advice ya'll could share would be great...Thanks Wally:)

Wally, the original poster (OP) hasn't posted in this thread since 2010. His status shows he was last here on iBoats on 6-Jan however. You will get better results, and anger the ForumGods less if you send a private message to the OP in the case of stale threads. Threads wander around aimlessly and scream for "Braaaaiiins!" if they are brought back from the dead.

Here is the new Bimini top and just ordered new seats to replace the old ones. She is a constant work in progress but for 38 years old she is a classic lady. I have been on her since new and I am not getting as offended when people tell me she is a classic. Does that make me a classic too?
