Nice work on the boat Chase, no rookie work there! However, you have to schmooze the wife a little better Dude! I need to see you finish this boat! :)

Really, I'm pretty lucky. She rarely puts her foot down...she's thankful that she can always locate me in the garage rather than the bars.

So, working solo it is easy to fill boat with water and mark the leakers. But working solo and relocating those same rivets inside the hull is more difficult.

I took a red sharpie marker and taped it to a fiberglass driveway marker. I check my marked leakers and then reach over with the extendo-sharpie and mark the locations from the inside.

Then just give them some extra attention and seal them over.

I finally got over the sticker shock enough to pull the trigger on epoxy. Now to find some Aruaco ply; my Lowes does not carry it. Surrounding ones do I found.

Donor boat gone. Wife will be happy when she comes home and sees that. Wonder how happy she'd be if I go by that 85 evinrude on Craigslist posted today for $500? Very tempting...see If it is still there tomorrow.

Quick update over the weekend; I bought a ski locker of ebay and then pedestal seat parts from Bass Pro (love them gift cards).

This morning I went to a Lowes 30mins away because the one 2mins away did not have the exterior plywood I needed. Got back home and started cutting out my deck and got a helping hand...

This was a good sight to see. Can't wait till it's ready to be attached.

Just need to cut the front bow piece and wait for the epoxy. Going to be a busy week...not anticipating too much more progress for a few days.

A little progress. Rolled the ol' battle axe out of the garage and filled her up with the hose. Looking pretty good. 2 very small leaks located in identical locations where the transom meets the seem of the hull...at the inner corner of the starboard keel???

Leaks at the same location on the port side too. I will try one application of gluvit from the inside and clean the outside up and use 5200.

The epoxy arrived yesterday and I started on one section of the deck. Foam brushes do not work great and when you set them down for 10 mins. they start smoking. But still some progress...

Today, the emails indicate that UPS is delivering the ski locker hatch and FedEx is due with the Bass Pro order of seat posts and mounts. Always nice to have a delivery waiting at home for you...let alone 2.

I used cheapie 3 or 4" chip brushes for my epoxy. Worked well.

Yes, just need to pick some more up and replace the ones i used gluviting. Get some at the Dollar tree and might as well get some noodles too.

Wife texted that the ski locker has arrived.

A bit more progress this evening. First, i went to the dollar store and bought more paint brushes and

You won't see them under the deck but they still are a good color match.

Got home and checked out the ski hatch...

Then it was time to brush on some epoxy...

Finished that job and had to get the lawn mowed. Then tucked my daughter in and went back out to the garage. Started sanding the ski hatch. It is cleaning up nicely. Think I am going to like having it in/on the boat.

Gotta work both jobs tomorrow. Looking for an early start Saturday. Have an invitation to go fishing though. Hmmm.

Question: can I do 1 coat of Epoxy if I am going to paint the deck too? Or go with the 1 coat bottom, 2 coats tops and sides.

With each coat you get better protection Chase. I usually feel pretty good laying down 3 coats or more, with double that on the edges. I'd say 2 coats would be minimum for your deck, eh.

Cheers

I'd double coat it. It really sucks up that first one.

Re: Margret Jaine the 78 Starcraft SS Resto

Thanks guys, I got home last night from work at 10:30 and since everyone was sleeping, I was able to get out to the garage and do more epoxy. Here is what it looked like when I peeled dried epoxy from the mixing bowl.

But, i had to run in and post more pics right now. I told the wife and boys to be ready to help flip the boat today. She showed very little enthusiasm and I went to Harbor Freight and they went garage selling.

I came home and did not want to wait. I just did a solo flip and rolled her over onto furniture dollies. It really stroked my ego. Been feeling a bit soft in the pass couple years and then I just manhandled the SS like an aluminum can:D.

Here are the pics...Was holding her with one hand and was trying to figure out how I could take video on my phone with the other.

Back out to do more work before heading to work at 3.

Ok, no new pics to add. Waiting to get the chance to start painting the bottom.

I just need to ask an iboats question...how the heck do I add my restoration thread as a link at the bottom of my posts??? I have tried several times to create/add it in. Do I need more post count or something?

I'm about as smart as a Pop-Tart but can usually figure this out.

Thanks.

Thanks...I kept thinking of the Tobey Keith song after I did it..."I ain't as good as I once was; but i'm as good once as I ever was."

Get to work HA...I keep checking these resto threads several times over the weekends to see if any updates have been added...yours, BigHoss and BoatGuy.;)

Love that song. Congrats on the flip. I consider that a huge milestone that I hope to experience soon as well.
Now that my hull is empty I lift a corner sometimes just to size it up. If it didn't have the roof on it I might try to flip it. But it would be more fun with a few buddies and a case of beer.

Man I wish that I could flip mine over. But just like Mike, I have a cabin on mine and being 22ft makes it a little difficult to do. Especially if I was try to attempt it myself. Congrats on getting it turned over bud.
