Hi all, I was ajusting my shift and throttle cable and I seen that at full throttle my carb blades are only 5/8's open.
so I removed throttle cable and ajusted it to where the carb. blades were open 7/8's not all the way to stops on carbs
not wanting them to hit and damage them, then I pushed throttle to WOT and it went to where I set it.BUT! once I pull throttle
back to idel it seems it is not returning all the way back on it's on. I removed the cable again and seen that if I try to move the end
of the cable it will move about 1" back and forth but throttle arm benical is locked in Neutral, once I push to WOT and back to neutral
and remove the cable I can by hand push linkage back to idel, So it seems that the cable has slack in it. with cable off linkage I can push or pull
1" of slack??

1987 200 HP Mariner carbed,

If I remove the throttle cable from the linkage with it locked in neutral I can move the cable back and forth 1"

OK now that i,ve looked at it again and ajusting I seen that if I put it in forward gear or revirse theres no slack? maybe there working
as they should,All I know is if I push the throttle to WOT and ajust cable to fit it there then when I throttle it down the big arm does
not go back to the throttle stop but I can push it farely easy with my hand. maybe when the motor is running it helps pull it back to idel heck I don,t know.

No, with the engine off you should be able to get the carbs all the way closed. I suggest grabbing a service manual and following the link and sync procedure instead of fiddling with the carb adjustment.
