Re: May have just scored

Scott, Im not sure how I can measure those for you. The cables are bending and winding from under the boat molding. My tape measure wouldnt be accurate enough. Short of removing them and laying them out straight to give you an exact measurement, Im not sure. If you have a better idea, I would like to help.

But, back to me.... :) My Hellion is MINT!!! I tried starting it tonight, It started with ether, but then died. Im taking it in to a Merc mechanic tomorrow. It has been sitting for many years and the carbs probably need a cleaning.

klaus, NEVER EVER use starting fluid on a two-stroke outboard (wich is even more true if it's been sitting for years...) or else your mechanic will love you. It's quite the opposite of fogging oil, no lube at all...

the cable length may be printed on the cables themselves. if you pull the rear bin, you can get a length from the steering to the seat, then from the seat to the end. same with the mercontrol cables.

also, never use ether on a 2-stroke. you need the fuel/oil for lube

When I was about 10 years old (in the mid-70's) my family went to Disney World in Orlando and I got to drive a little boat like that in the lake (Lake BuenaVista me thinks). That 30 minutes of driving that boat all by myself - made me the man I am today! : )

Anybody know if those were Hellions? Just looking at these pics brought me right back there!

I'm not sure those were Hellions back then. Until recently they were the Mercury Water Mouse. But I don't know when they started using them.

Now replaced with the Sea Ray Sea Racer.

That is an awfully cool little boat - especially for $20

possibly, however probably not. the Hellions were a 1970 only thing from what I found. Also, Disney has a long standing agreement with Mercury/Brunswick, so most likely they were one of the Brunswick brands even back then.

Klaus,

will call in a bit.

I may have just scored again. a decent shape 1984 Merc 110 (9.8hp) for $80 with tank and a new prop on it (including the old prop). runs, however doesnt pump water. so a water pump and I am good.

That is a great looking mini boat - Would be useless for me on the "big" lake but man on an inland or river, Watch out.
