It's mostly handling during docking, OB just don't bite like IO and then add to it hydraulic steering. Instead of 3.5 turns lock to lock it's 8 turns. Could be joy stick would make it better but it's a light boat with a hardtop, and the top makes it a sail in the wind. I the boat weighed another 1K it might be better.

I'm loosing more money than I wanted to but I'm just done with Chap, so never again

Some fly by wire setups can get that high but they’re programmable. Sounds like a mismatch between the helm and cylinder.

I've had some outboards with really good dock manners. But I agree... they tend to be less decisive, particularly in reverse. My 4winns with the I/O is particularly good around the dock. A lot of people have run it and are surprised because people associate single I/O woth wandering in reverse and being slow to respond but you literally just point the wheel were you want and it just does it.

I'm going to assume chap cutting corners was also a factor too? We checked out the formula booth at the boat show last winter and everything they had was head and shoulders above anything else at that show. Which I expect from them but it was nice to see it to still be true. Sales man let me climb into access holes and see everything. There was nothing I could find to complain about on any of the boats they had there.

I went around and around with Chap right after purchase and all they said is this is how we build it. If I had only one motor it would be 3.5 turns but add another and same lines and pump and you get 8

Did find that if the lines were increased to about 1/2 ID with adjustable helm you can change the ratio during docking. This is a costly option which have been added to larger boats.

The helm has 4 lines going to 2 rams on the motors

I'm guessing with OBs they're mounted further back and higher so prop wash hits transom maybe. I had never thought of that aspect. I wonder if tpenfield is experiencing this.

Correct, When docking I move the legs out about 15*

My boat, now with outboards, handles a bit differently than the sterndrives did around the dock, but significantly better/worse. I have not counted the steering wheel turns, but it does not seem unusual.

My steering is all-electric. I don't notice the reverse thrust being a problem.
One thing to consider is that you are going back to a single engine, so dock handling is different.

From what we have heard over the past couple of years about AD's ownership experience, the change seems to be about Chaparral, not the propulsion.
