Be sure the new drive is not an Alpha One Gen 2, it isn't interchangable with an MC-1

here is a chart with different drive ratios for engine combos if you haven't seen it yet:

You should be fine, then, but I'd still verify by counting teeth or looking for the ratio stamped on the drive.

where would this stamp be?

and he assured me it was a gen 1....guess i'll have to see for sure when i get there, im guessing the bolt pattern is different? whats the visual difference between the two?...i'll have someone with me who will probably know for sure but id like to know just in case...

An 888 is a 302 Ford engine, not a 351. The 351 was called a 233.
The 888 uses a 1.50 Gear ratio.
A 1990 is an Alpha I, not a Gen II.

the drive is definitely 888, yes it may have had the 302 in it at one point but a 351 is in it now

and yes thats what i was saying, the 1990 should be alpha 1 gen 1....unless he just doesnt know what hes talking about and his years mixed up...ill find out here in about an hour i guess

You can still stick with a 1.50, the 351 can't be that much of a torque monster that it needs a 1.32 ratio like the big blocks do. 350's use 1.50's all the time.

Can you get a picture or serial number of the 1990 drive? Info is up in the adults only sticky to ID the drive, even has pictures.

Re: MC-1 weep hole....

alrighty, so, i went and checked out the "new to me" outdrive...sure enough the 1.50:1 stamp was on it and i opened up the top cap on the upper and it literally looked brand new, nice clean lube and bearings n gears....bought it, slapped it on and took her out for a ride

everything worked perfect! the "new" leg came with a hydro-foil and i left it on for sh!ts n giggles...i have another post floating around here somewhere about how hard my boat was to steer, well, i dunno if the foil has anything to do with it but my steering is dramatically easier...and just in time for labor day weekend!!
