If I replace the Yoke Assembly is there a shimming procedure?

I'm trying to decide whether to use a speedi-sleeve or just replace the yoke.
Also trying to not buy any more tools as my budget is slim.

thanks

No shimming required but depending on your year you either tighten the nut or you must use rolling torque

Thanks, that sounds promising as the sleeve costs as much as the yoke, and it already has a sleeve on it.
It's a 1982. How does one tell if it's the type that requires rolling torque?

The gear came off easily with a slight pry if that makes a difference.

there should have been 2 rings between the bearings? If you mean by hand pressure then it should have 2 rings

There's a 3.8" and 2.25" ring between the bearings if those are the ones you mean. By hand pressure I meant a very slight pry with a screwdriver to get it started and then it slid apart.

Correct, with the 2 rings you have the old style gearset and just tighten the nut to spec.

Thank you very much. Man was I confused!

When would reshimming come into play with that gearset? Or does it ever?
Can I reuse the nut and washer?

When you shim the vert gear and check it with the tool and set the height of the vert and length of the horiz gears . That's why you should have found some shims in the horiz shaft. or still in the case. You can reuse the nut but when its tightened hit 3 sides of the nut with a edge of a flat chisel.to stake it.
