Hi,
I rebuilt and installed a Volvo Penta 3.0 litre engine, 2001. It has a SX outdrive. To check it was running I ran it briefly a couple of times with the impeller off and no water circulating through it. The next day I had the water circulating through from the ear muffs. I spent a long time cranking over the engine before it started. When it did start there what a whinning/ rubbing noise that seemed at the same speed as engine speed, from back of engine. Is the gimble bearing in the outdrive gone because of no water running through it? The outdrive does seem to now be vibriting alot. I am going to decouple the engine from the outdrive and run the engine to see is the noise still there.
What else could be damaged with not water circulating to give this noise?
Can a new main bearing go with continued cranking, if the engine has done less than a hour running?
Thanks,
Shane.
