Ok, So I've decided to rise before the sun and get on the water before the "twice a year" boaters even wake up. I was considering not going out this weekend, but the weather forecast changed my mind.

Does anyone else here avoid boating during certain times of year due to the "occasional boaters" or do you just work around them?

yep, work around them. i usually think i shouldn't go, but the draw of power boating for the day usually gets the best of me and i go out anyways... i been going out for a month + already. sure will be a bummer to loose my private (it's a public lake, the crowds start and end on the holidays) lake to everyone else. now the long wait till labor day and they'll all be gone again... ;)

true, but they can be entertaining for sure. as long as ya can keep yer distance from them...

edit, oh, and hope they aint in ft. of you at the ramp... :(

I couldn't get out on the water last weekend because life got in the way... Hopefully we'll get sometime on the water this weekend even knowing it will be crowded!!!

I try not to let the twice a year boaters spoil my days or even season. I've been in the water a few times already and made sure everything works on the boat.
Tomorrow, those twice a year folks, will be out there flagging people down for tows back to the docks because they don't check anything on the boat because they figured they only used it for a few hours last year.

My preference is to boat on Easter, Thanksgiving and New Years.

A whole lot fewer...........:D:D

With my luck I'd have a marine mechanic on board and he would find the "fake or created" problem in 30 seconds or less.

Well, its pretty regulated now here in San Diego, the drunks/dumbos get busted pretty quick. Never had a issue, but I think that's because I am experienced with boating this area (15 years of boating SD). Keep your eyes on the water, and don't drink if your the captain!

I got a few hours in early this afternoon so everyone and their brothers can do their thing.I will get out again when they all go back to work on Tuesday.

We are near a lot of lakes but they are too small for the holiday traffic.

We are going out on Sunday, BUT, I try to avoid the crowd on Monday, as that is IMO when the "practicing boaters come out, to drink and attempt to boat".

If some of the family wants to go out I'll take them otherwise the boat will be happier than a clam on pismo beach just sitting on the trailer

I avoid it like the plague, There's plenty of room in the Gulf, it's the ramp that sucks.

Re: Memorial Weekend Boating

As a rule, I try to avoid leaving the house on holiday weekends.
There are just too many people mixed with excessive amounts of alcohol out there, be it on the lake or on the highways.

I'll let 'em have at each other and I'll just watch it on the 5 o'clock news.
