I just make it a point to use the hidden ramps on those weekends, even if it means towing a bit further, The larger public ramps are insane and I would have to shoot somebody...

We are going out on Sunday, BUT, I try to avoid the crown on Monday, as that is IMO when the "practicing boaters come out, to drink and attemp to boat".

I avoid the Crown on Monday too. I have to work on Tuesday, and I don't want a hangover!:D

I like going out on the holidays and seeing everyone else out on the water. Lots of interesting sights! The places I go aren't crowded anyway, and there's plenty of launches to put in from so waiting's not a problem. Can't imagine living where I'd be afraid to take my boat out.

Re: Memorial Weekend Boating

I do tend to avoid the "drunken moron boater" weekends to some extent, but not always. In my area, there are a couple of places where boating seems to be more about "partying" than about boating, so I stay away from them. We also have alot of canals and I may avoid them, because of the frequency of intersection collisions on party weekends.

That said, I currently have a massive case of poison oak, so unless I get a SAR call, I'll probably stay home!

We will probably hit our local lake if the weather breaks. We used to get a condo or a house down on Lake Travis, (near Austin) for the weekend. We won't be doing that any more. It is a complete zoo. Not only do you have to deal with all of the drunk boaters and jet skiers, but I would have to have my "Captain Voice" On all the time to keep my guests under control. Way more aggravation than it was worth.

To add to my reply... drinking alcohol at San Diego beaches is now officially illegal since 2008, so that helps with some drunk party's involving boats & jet ski's. Will possibly hit Mission Bay Monday, if things look good.

I usually leave the dock at six in the morning to get some salmon.Once you are a mile or 2 out onto lake Ontario over 200 feet of water the amount of idiots shrinks a lot.Out there, there are only fisherman.

depends, if your asking about holidays in general, I live in the south and find that ThanksG, Christmas and New Years the ramps are always empty, however a day like Memorial or Labor Day forget about it...too many idiots and no parking :D

I went out just this past Mothers Day and I found out there are a lot of mothers on the water on mothers day....not the mommy kind the other kinds of mothers

I went out on one of the rivers yesterday and will go again today or tomorrow. Not as crowded as the lakes.

It is a law here in Indiana that you must go fishing on all 3 day weekends or face serious fines and possible jail time (not really but don't tell my wife)

I got out last night, from 6pm till dark it was pretty busy but as soon as the sun sets all the jet fleas and skiers go away and it is pretty nice, that is one of the reasons I night fish.

I actually went with my wife and we even caught a couple and were disaster free the whole night, last time I took her a trailer tire came loose and we had to go home at 3mph for 20 miles, time before that an epic hatch of deer flies ect ect so this trip was really nice.

Re: Memorial Weekend Boating

I'm retired. I don't boat on weekends...ever. The lakes are no place to be in a 12' aluminum boat on a weekend. It's nuts. Now, at 8 A.M. on a Tuesday or Wednesday, it's just us old geezers going fishing. Nice and slow and happy.

Well, there is this guy on my favorite lake who's also retired and who likes to do touch and goes with his vintage seaplane. He must do it every day, since he always seems to be flying every time I go out.

Fortunately, there are no fish in the part of the lake where he lands and takes off, and the plane is beautiful.

That said, I caught a very nice bass under his plane once while it was docked in front of his house. I'm very careful, though, not to smack the float with my lure. He's watching.

In the area I live in, upstate SC, it can depend on what lake you choose to go to for the holiday weekend whether it will be troublesome at the ramp and/or on the lake. This Memorial weekend we went to Lake Russell and was pleasantly surprised. There was plenty of open parking spots at the ramp and we put my boat in the water with no waiting. Fishing was great, too. Lake Hartwell and Jocassee can be biatch at the holidays though.

Re: Memorial Weekend Boating

i usually dont, but im going this weekend. will be the first memorial trip for me in a looongg time and im only goin cause family is in town. im preparing for the worst lol, but i think ill be fine once i get out of the marina.

so i went this weekend...oh boy. interesting times at the launch. I saw a 25'+ mariah get launched with no one on board, that was interesting. it was really busy, but my buddy and I have a pretty good system so we handled our little bayliner better at the launch than most handled their shiny expensive boats lol. all in all, i have mixed feelings and im not sure if i would do it again or not on a holiday

Re: Memorial Weekend Boating

My wife and I, the newbs, went out yesterday on the Chesapeake bay and the Gunpowder river. There weren't many out at all IMO. We anchored over by Maxwell pt, a popular hangout and we were 1 of a dozen maybe. The ramp we used wasn't that busy at all.
This was our 2nd launch/retrieve and all went perfect again *knocks on wood*

I was going to go out again today, but I have an intermittent trim issue I need to work out first.
