Also found out you don't need the special tool to remove or install the ALT belt. 8M0146862 ($55 to $70)

Just cut the belt to remove, and hold the belt with one hand while you rotate the motor using breaker bar. You DO need the special tool to rotate the motor. 8M146861 ($72 to $85)

Yes, but this issue has not been looked at by dealer yet. I'm really thinking all along it was caused by what was installed trying to get VV to fully power down. VV wasn't powering down because Chap didn't rig the boat correctly

If it helps, I stripped and painted my lower by the book and about half of it peeled off in sheets after one six hour outing.

Paint coming off in sheets is bad prep.
@alldodge has silver gear cases. this is a special $62 a can catalyzed paint. And special prep. Once you start, you have less then 6 hrs to use it up. This means the 4 coats need to be put on every 1/2 to 1 hr.
Mercury pays 3 hrs. So I could guess that some dealerships might skip some of what should be done.
Looking at the photos @alldodge posted earlier with all the over spray, I will also guess they tried to do this outside and the environmental conditions weren't right.

No Lemon Law for boats. There are some consumer protection laws, but in 40 years I have heard of very few successful cases and never seen one that worked out in the customers favor.

But I'm not sure why you be upset Mercury made a couple of special tools for this job? They aren't needed, they just make sure this job can be correctly and SAFELY. safely more then anything

We don't do many Simrad setups, but do install many Garmin and Hummingbird MFDs. It is common for MFDs to read a slightly different voltage. Anything 0.5v and under is nothing to worry about. As always, the voltages you see on the scan tool and DMM are all that really matter.

I have long felt that some of these problems are due to something going wrong during rigging at the factory. The trouble is that these glitches pretty much require a highly trained tech, a Mercury dealer only scan tool and the possibility of a lot of hours. Only 2 out of the many dealers I've worked for would even think of doing this on a boat they sold. Because at this point it's really only a glitch ---- the boat still boats.

I'm thinking if the dealer doesn't see anything on the G3 than my next thought is to remove the Firstmate and VV mobile, I don't use them anyway.

Dealer and Mercury Tech support found the issue, it's the oil level check.

Merc says when motors are shut down to raise the legs so oil flows out of cylinders and back into pan.

My start up procedure changed and was causing the issue. I bring drives full down and than raise up to about 15 degrees because backing the boat needs this for better control. When motors are started they know the motors are not full down so they do not know if oil level is correct, hence the beep.

So to start Verado's turn Bat switches ON, tilt full down and start motors. I did remember after being told this that I use to see oil level status and it stopped showing up. So motors where just telling me it wasn't sure if things were ok

Human error but don't remember seeing anything in the startup procedure

The tilting the motor up after shutdown is covered in all the bigger engines owners manuals. But they make it sound like it's only for oil smoke on start up.
But I have never seen anything about needing to trim all the way down for starting. Usually just to make sure the water intakes are covered. The delivery guys at the dealership always tell customers to trim down for starting, never really gave it any thought. But the oil level makes sense. Since this has been going on I have asked everyone who might know, what the single beep would mean. Everyone said "I never heard of that - I don't know".
