Merc 3.0 not getting fuel at 3/4 tank

Merc 140 3.0 SN 6903513 1985 Searay Seville 5M. Boat ran great today until it stopped getting fuel. I filled up the 20 gal tank before going out but after running about 5.2 gallons (from the gas pump later) NO FUEL. Carb dry, fuel filter empty. After fillup ( and a long tow, UUGH) motor purred on muffs in my yard. I assume there must be a hose inside the fuel tank that has failed or the pump in there is FUBAR. Any one with ideas? I attached a photo of where I think the problem is (fuel tank) and encourage any help, thanks in advance. CNort

yes take your check valve out the line inside the tank is probaly cracked and sucking in air the line is just plastic i just replaced mine last week i had the same problem very easy to fix

Sounds like the anti-siphon valve is fubar, or your pickup in the tank is clogged/obstructed.

The anti siphon valve doesn't have anything to do with fuel level. The pickup tube on the tank is probably loose or fell off.

Here is a photo of what was in the fuel tank. This hose is about 3 inches long and the bottom of the tank is about 8 inches deep. Maybe there was another hose zip-tied on there at one point? This job is best done WITHOUT a FULL gas tank!

P.S. pen was added for reference, it was not in the gas!

PS: If you have a full tank, put the bow of the boat down so the front of the tank is lower than the back. There is usually enough air gap to pull the pickup out without loosing any gas.

well it's not the greatest fix but the plastic has to resist gas i'm not sure if zip ties are resistant

Yea, rather than fish various plastic parts out of my tank, I went ahead and ordered a replacement. Glad to have addressed the problem with minimal cost/time. Thanks for helping me figure this out!
