I'm looking to upsize to a Doral Cavalier 240 (late 80s) and the one I am zeroing in one claims to have a Mercury 350 motor and a Jasper outdrive. After doing a little research I am satisfied that the Jasper drive is a plus rather than a neg . . . . but what I am uncertain of is - would this Merc 350 be the 300 hp Horizon EFI? Is there an earlier, less hawt, version of a merc 350? Seller is uncergtain and is going to look around for more info on what he's got.

Here is the boat:

Any other comments, plus or minus, on this vessel, of course welcomed. The outdrive and cushions are stored inside, the gaskets etc. on the outdrive being replaced each season. It certainly seems that the guy takes very good care of his stuff.

What's the Merc serial number? Should be a metal tag riveted to the block just aft and above where the starter mounts on the engine.

Haven't seen the boat and it is a fair ways away. But I guess there are older carbed 5.7 Merc motors and no doubt this one would be one of those. I will ask the seller to give me the serial # but for now it is under what seems to be a pretty significant wrap job.

Ayuh,.... Merc has been usin' the 350 with both 2bbl., 'n 4bbl. carbs since 1970....

Bein' late-80s, I'd think it's carbed...

Re: Merc 350 info?

The Horizon series MPI engines first came out in 2003. So unless it was repowered, it is not a Horizon, and being a 90 boat, not even EFI. EFI didn't start until 95 with the TBI system on the 5.7's

From 1987 to 1989 mercruiser made the 320 efi (5.7 chevy w/ efi) if it has this motor run!
