Hi, I hope this is the correct forum for this question. I own a 1995 Bayliner Capri 1854 3.0 I/O,, previous owner cracked the block on a brand new 3.0 engine. I just picked up a used complete engine which appears to be in very good shape my quesion is that this engine has the mercathode system installed, or rather the controller not the annodes ect. I will be operating my boat in saltwater but it will be completely washed and rinsed after every use and kept indoors, do I really need this mercathode system????

Re: MerCathode System

No you do not need the MerCathode system, if you are keeping your boat on a trailer.

The MerCathode system is to prevent galvanic corrosion while you are in the water. The galvanic corrosion is caused by problems, with shore power connected to boats at the dock.
