I just had a new engine installed last year, and now I am smelling fuel from the air intakes. Is this ok? It makes the whole boat stink of gas.

If you mean the intakes on the hull and not the air cleaner then
YOU HAVE A GAS LEAK SOMEPLACE

There are 2 air intakes on the back sides of the boat that draw air into the carborator (I think that's where they go). I don't see gas leaking on the outside of the engine, but I smell it from those intakes. it's an 87 ebbtide riviera with a 4.3l mercruiser and a 205 carb.

It's very simple, you have to find the leak.
It could be anywhere. Carb or fuel pump could be leaking if someone put a non marine part on it. Lines, fittings, on anything, or even the gas tank itself. I have replaced many that a hole corrodes through.
But you must find it. An enclosed area with fumes is an explosion waiting to happen. All it takes is a spark.

Ayuh,... Gasoline is a Heavier than air vapor, in collects in the bowels of the bilge,...

Til it finds that Spark,..... BOOM ! ! !....
