Re: Mercruiser 470 inboard -- stern drive to inboard

Is there a different sub forum where I might have more luck finding input from people with experience with the ring and bearing choices?

As stated a few replies before this one is a link to breezeworks, it's 470's only sight. Perhaps they may have more information on the bearings.

It's not very active but I'll give it a shot anyway.

What transmission are you wanting? I saw you identify a Velvet-drive and another poster mentioned V-Drive. As they are different and require a 180 degree engine orientation, I assume you would want a Velvet-drive with a straight shaft. Let me know what gear ratio you are looking for as i have access to 6-8 different BW transmissions around here.

I don't think I said anything about a v-drive. I said I already got a brand new zf marine zf25a transmission. That transmission has an 8 degree down angle output.

Re: Mercruiser 470 inboard -- stern drive to inboard

How can I help you? I have a pair of inboard 3.7 engines that were removed from a 1980 25 Blackfin. One of them is even reverse rotation. I think they had Velvet drive 2.10 gears behind them at one point.

I have used some of the parts to build a pair of 190 hp 3.7's for a 24 Blackfin. Maybe you can assist with some of the machine shop work that still needs to be performed.
Front engine mount for inboard- have picture of OE design have not yet started
Water pump mounting- Would like to crank mount the R/W pump as you have done.
Flywheel to velvet drive damper mounting. I have the OE dampers but I can't find anymore like them. Need to use a damper that is available on the market. I have a few ideas that you might be able to turn out on an end mill.

Send me a PM and see if we can come to terms on some of these items.

I'm not getting any notifications for some reason. I would have replied sooner if I had seen your post sooner. Can you post your OE inboard pictures in this thread?

The reason the 470 inboard was produced for such a short time was that it made the transmission noisy at idle and just above.
Reason was the pulses and inherent vibration of an inline 4 "rattled" the gears in the trans. Don't recall if it caused any trans failures, was just objectionable from the customers' feedback.

That kind of makes sense. That aught to be resolveable with the correct damper though. I'm using the small diameter one made for mounting on the timing gear side of primarily, I think, 4 cyl perkins diesels. I would think if it can handle the choppy pulses of a 4 cyl diesel it could handle the pulses of a 3.7. I guess I will find out one way or the other.

Is there an email address to add to my contacts on aol to make sure they don't filter out notifications from this site. I'm still not getting any and I've double and tripple checked that I have them set to on.
