I just had my 4.3L Gen II engine rebuilt and I did the re&re. Drive was originally removed by marina, but I put it back in.
I thought the speedo cable was all intact and still in place but maybe I just dont know what i'm doing.

Any suggestions on where to start my hunt for the problem? Its still hooked up to the speedo on the dash and i believe the other end goes into the transome plate.

Also my trim gauges dropped out on me years ago. I assume its the little sensors on the side of the drives.
any help greatly apperciated.

thx

Have you looked at the little white triangular plastic piece on the transom with a tune attached? That's your pitot (speedo) tube.

No i have not. I've never noticed anything like that.
Would you have a pic that you could show me to help locate?

You say its on the transome and not the lower unit right?

Are you talking about on the outside of the boat, because it definitely doesnt have that. Been over it top to bottom.

thanks i'll check out the link.

i'm positive i dont have a pitot hanging down like that, it must be internal on my drive. I would have noticed it and checked. My outboard had that setup, nothing like that on this I/O.

no my boat definitely does not have an external pitot like that.
i'm not that new, i would have known to check. i've had an outboard that had a mount like that, they dont last long when pulling your boat into the beach.

the one on the alpha II drive must be internal??

did you have the lower off? if so you need to hook up the tube again(assuming it wasn't broken when removing the lower) it is on the backside (if outside the boat looking toward the bow) of the drive about in the middle just above the shelf. Small black tube with a quick connect on the end. If you raise the drive and get back in there you should see it. When I did my impeller this year I forgot to hook mine back up and had to do it while the boat was in the water just by feel. Once you find it it should just clip into the reciever and you are good to go. If you removed the lower and didn't remove the tube prior to dropping the lower you may have pulled the quick connect off the end of the tube in which case it will still be in the lower and the tube will just have a raw end. If that is the case you MAY be able to reattach just the connector I'm not sure as I have never had to do that. Good luck post back with your findings, it an alpha 1 gen 2 right.

Okay got home and checked and you are 100% correct. The tube with the quick connect was not hooked up. This is good times for me!!

Now to fix the broken trim gauge. Unfortunately that didnt work before the lower unit was pulled.

thanks for all the help guys. Forums ROCK!
