Mercruiser Water Distribution Housing,Help/Question

I managed to break the plastic part of the Water Distribution Housing that accepts the little blue plastic plug. I did not overtighten it, but it must have already been cracked. It was leaking slowly, so I bought a new plug and O ring. Now I need a complete new housing.
My questions are:
1.)I seem to have found part # 863631T1 for manual drain application which I have. Some info says for 5.0L and 350 Mag. I have 2004 model 4.3L 220 hp MPI engines. Will this part number fit/match up to my motor?
2.) I hope that this housing just drains the engine/risers etc. and that I can remove the hoses an replace the entire housing once the block is drained without the entire lake rushing into my bilge, providing the engine is not running of course. Is this correct ?

I have not attempted anything like this before, so excuse me if these are dumb questions. The replacement looks staight forward enough that I can do it myself, while the boat is in the water.

Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Mercruiser Help/Question

Post a serial number for your engine. It the only way to get the correct part. Year only gets US in the ballpark.

Re: Mercruiser Help/Question

On the starboard engine, Serial # OWO65183. Port engine is okay now, just a small trickle of water. For reference port Serial # is OWO65192.
The boat is a 2005, but both engines were manufactured in 2004.

I noticed tonite the starboard engine was drained, no more pee. So is it okay once it is drained to take the housing off and replace it while the boat is in the water ? I assume it is, but just asking to be sure.

Thanks again for any help you can offer.

I believe the engines are above the waterline. The block seems to be drained.

Just need to confirm part # 863631T1 will fit the engine described. On the starboard engine, Serial # OWO65183

The sterndrive is a Bravo 3, if that is of any help.

After removing the housing, it looks exactly like this picture.

All the info I can find says it should be part # 863631T 1.

Can I confirm that either here or through Mercruiser customer service ?

Well, I can put this thread to bed. Hope it was amusing to some of you.

The part I posted above, is the correct part, and I ordered it today on line.

It's located on the lower right front of the engine. Under one of the belt pulleys. It's relatively easy to access and remove. Hope it's just as easy to replace. I'll find out tonite.

It's probably on the newer GM marine engines, it was not on my 1989 4.3L V6.

The part went on easily. No leaks. Now we are ready to hit the lakes this weekend. :)
