Re: Mercruiser wire harness... Please help
I assume you mean the harness which goes from the main connector plug to the dashboard and beyond. If so, the short answer is: it might. The long answer is that you need to check the connectors, one at a time. There are variations in the Mercruiser wiring harnesses in pin size, pin location and number, and wire guage. I have adapted a harness from one engine to another, but you must examine each piece carefully. Start by getting a service manual for your engine. 4share.com is one site for a free download. Then find the wiring diagram. It will be easier if you print out that page or two. Now start checking each pin and wire. Does the harness have the exact mnumber of pins needed and are they in the right locations? Does the harness plug in properly? If you have an extra wire or two on the harness, but the other wires and pins match up properly, you can use it. Now start checking the color code and wire guage. The manual will help. Label each wire end as to where it goes. This is a bit time-consuming, but it can be done. Small variations can be handled, but do not make any connection with undersized wires. Good luck. Hy
