Engine is idling at about 800 or so

Once it's dropped into the water and in gear, it will drop about 50RPM, but 800 is still too high. Follow the procedures and specs achris is posting up, very good info there...

what is the best way to hand turn the engine to find TDC?

Work on getting the idle RPM down to where it's supposed to be, then check your timing again. If it's still way off, then worry about the balancer slipping and the timing mark being off.

I tighten the alternator belt really tight, pull all the plugs, then use the big nut on the front of the alternator to turn the engine over using a ratchet,,,, if rocking the engine a breaker bar works well.

changed the plugs since the old ones looked a very little bit carbony (sp?).
Lake trials went great. Set idle speed and reset timing and idle speed at 750 RPM. Seafoamed the carb with the boat running in the water...WOW, what smoke...and pretty stinky smoke!

compared operation with and without the stingray attached to the outdrive...I think I like it planning quicker with the stingray on...

Thank you to the helpful people on iboats forum. It would have taken me a lot longer without you guys' help.
