Mercury 50..how old?

have aquired a mercury 50 non starter! need to order some parts to repair only cant find a tag on it for serial number. Do they come off or is it stamped into the engine? Its 3 cylinder,electric start,with a blue band around the cover.

Tim,<br /> See if you can find a welch plug (freeze plug)<br />with a number stamped on it. It should be on lower rear. Ser# are listed here on many engines. The tilt tube in front of engine or on rear of transom bracket are places where serial plates or stickers are located but may get removed or painted over. I think your engine is most likely 86-88 but only number will tell for sure. If you find number, post it and we can work from there. Good luck<br />Bob

well had a look around and these are the what I found....A green sticker with the words o.k<br /> oc 87<br /><br />and various numbers 1025- 3506-37496 or c <br /> A8363 <br />89 DLD 1593<br /> -7511<br /> -02 allso its not only a blue band their is allso a thinner red one as well<br /><br />thanks in advance to any replys<br /><br />Tim

Those numbers don't look relevant. The welch plug is about 2.5cm diam and will be on the block of the motor somewhere. It is not a sticker but is pressed right into the block of the motor. Usually well hidden .

If it's a blue band cowling, and no one has changed it, then it is somewhere between 73 and 79. Only the serial # can narrow it down further.<br /><br />Craig
