Re: Michael Jackson?

If I hear 1 more thing about MJ i'm going to grab my glock and shoot the next person named "michael Jackson" on principle.

Ed McMahon actively served as a US Marine but you don't here that... celebrity or not he was a vet.

Farah Fawcett... who cares.

Billy Mays... Well they say celeb's die in 3's... leave it to Billy to throw in the fourth for free.

I still reckon he was a big time child molester.

Re: Michael Jackson?

I never was a huge fan of MJ either and yes I'm getting a little tired of hearing about nothing but MJ. Do I think he was a strange individual? YES. Do I think he was addicted to prescription drugs? YES. Do I think he was a freaky pedophile? NOT SURE. The guy lived a life that almost all of us could never imagine. Unable to go anywhere without being mauled by crazy screaming fans would be miserable. I believe the guy probably had mental issues due to his upbringing. But to me the simple fact of the matter is that MJ was still a human being and deserves a little respect for that. I think that now that is memorial service is over the media should move on and quit beating a dead horse but we all know that will never happen.

Just me 2 cents

You are certainly entiltled to your own political views, but this is not the place to express them.

I agree with 99% of you folks...I liked the moonwalk momentarily in 4th grade but as soon as he started playing with little boys(in the bad way) he became just another pederast...to quote from The Big Lebowski.:D

I'm wondering what other events are lacking coverage in the media but like lowkee I avoid tv like the plague(except for fishing shows on Outdoor Channel of course).

By the way NPR is a shell of its former self as is PBS. As soon as they take $$$ from multinational corporations for their operating budget all ethics, integrity and humanity are dissolved. Yes, they too have commercials just in a different format.

Re: Michael Jackson?

I was never much of a Jackson 5 or MJ fan. I guess their/his style of music just didn't hold much of an appeal for me.

When the allegations began, I really didn't know what to think of them, other than how inappropriate it was for him to have the kids in his room. I thought it was also incredibly dumb of him. I guess my gut tells me, that there were a few things going on that should not have been, but who really knows?

Of the people who memorialized him, I thought Brook Shields got into what made Jackson tick more than anyone. I really hadn't realized how close she had been to him. She did though, and she seems to have insights about MJ that few others do.

Whatever is true or not true about Michael Jackson, there was one person who's words choked me up in a major way. That person was his daughter. Very simply put, no matter what, he was her daddy and watching her struggle to speak was pretty tough.

Man, this thread is getting too much like the guys at the "Liars' Club" table at the back of the local McDonalds every morning, sipping their seniors coffee. I don't hang around there much either.

Jay expressed my thoughts very well except I did like his music for the most part. Regardless, 3 children lost the only parent they've ever known, and that's sad.

Well, I actually liked him, still like a lot of his music, & considered him very talented in the beginning, and so did my kids, that is until things got bizarre! but, I couldn't turn on the TV yesterday for news and weather at anytime, without being slammed with constant coverage about him, it just got old fast! My wife is a firm believer that he was a pedophile, and paid everyone off, but who knows? I don't, and I reserve judgement myself.

Re: Michael Jackson?

there are 2 tickets to the memorial on ebay for $10,000.
C'mon, Bob pony up a few k and I'll drive!:D

Oops, looks like we missed out.

Just like OJ, another celebrity whose past is overlooked because of no "conviction". Well, he's is going to a place where his judgement is in the hands of a power greater than all of us. He will surely meet justice there.....

Re: Michael Jackson?

He was a product of his surroundings....I have no doubt he was extremely talented when it came to music and performing. In my mind probably a prodigy at such a young age. But an abusive and greedy father and an up and coming label failed to develop him into a responsible adult. Imagine being at a young age with all the pressure on your shoulders, but no one else there to mentor and develp you the way you needed. He was doomed from the start.

Having said that......should there be all of this coverage? Heck no. But just like everything else, the media drives public opinion they way they see fit. Most people out there watching all of this are like lemmings running to the sea.

Is he buried yet? I've been mowing grass, working on the boat, fishing, cleaning the pool, etc to avoid any TV.

Is it now save for me to turn on the local or national news channels?

I will give him credit for being a music icon. He gave nothing else to society. All this coverage of him was not necessary. In my vechicle I listened to country and switched the tv to another station. Even Fox news was covering it. All about ratings.

Re: Michael Jackson?

THIS WAS WRITTEN BY A SOLDIER IN IRAQ .

I was just watching the news, and I caught part of a report on Michael Jackson . As we all know, Jackson died the other day. He was an
entertainer who performed for decades. He made millions, he spent millions, and he did a lot of things that make him a villian to many people. I understand that his death would affect a lot of people, and I respect those people who mourn his death, but that isn't the point.

Why is it that when ONE man dies, the whole of America loses their minds with grief. When a man dies whose only contribution to the country was to ENTERTAIN people, the Amercian people find the need to flock to a memorial in Hollywood , and even Congress sees the need to hold a "moment of silence" for his passing?

Am I missing something here? ONE man dies, and all of a sudden he's a freaking martyr because he entertained us for a few decades? What about all those SOLDIERS who have died to give us freedom? All those Soldiers who, knowing that they would be asked to fight in a war, still raised their hands and swore to defend the Constitution and the United States of America . Where is there moment of silence? Where are the people flocking to their graves or memorials and mourning over them because they made the ultimate sacrifice? Why is it when a Soldier dies, there are more people saying "good ridence," and "thank God for IEDs?" When did this country become so calloused to the sacrifice of GOOD MEN and WOMEN, that they can arbitrarily blow off their deaths, and instead, throw themselves into mourning for a "Pop Icon?"

I think that if they are going to hold a moment of silence IN CONGRESS for Michael Jackson, they need to hold a moment of silence for every service member killed in Iraq and Afghanistan . They need to PUBLICLY recognize every life that has been lost so that the American people can live their callous little lives in the luxory and freedom that WE, those that are living and those that have gone on, have provided for them. But, wait, that would take too much time, because there have been so many willing to make that sacrifice. After all, we will never make millions of dollars. We will never star in movies, or write hit songs that the world will listen too. We only shed our blood, sweat and tears so that people can enjoy what they have.

Sorry if I have offended, but I needed to say it. Feel free to pass this along if you want.

Remember these five words the next time you think of someone who is serving in the military; "So that others may live..."

Thoroughly fed-up with 24hr news programs! They live for this type of event and in the mean time seem to hunt for news that's not there when it is slow.

I am one of those who actually don't know a single person who owns a MJ album. (living here must not be all bad)
